Sheesh! You name one chick, a pullet no less, after a guy and his head gets so big he can't even fit through the door anymore!

Yes, the snakes are out now because it's warmer. A couple months back there was a rat snake in my coop trying to eat the eggs, but I think I caught it in time. I haven't seen or smelled a skunk around here for years now.Day 2....
Trap 1 untouched
Trap 2 another skunk
I've never seen a skunk on or near my property before. I'm betting they're only showing up for eggs so honestly I'd rather not be catching them. They have a dangerous end which I'd rather not have to deal with. Hence why no pic today.
Also found a six and a half foot black snake eating eggs in a nest box already today. Those damn things need to go. They are not a fun surprise to stumble upon too. In fact as I looked around I've decided I will never buy another black garden hose. Bright yellow ones from here on out. Black hoses now have me jumpy.
Oh ouch… I felt this post in my chest. I am so sorry! That is devastating!!!Looks like I had an overnight coon visit.
Looks like something reached through door wire catching a hen and trying to pull it through. Took the head and neck off and must have pulled hard enough to pop the door open.
Trio pen with my last good silver duckwing rooster over two splash silver duckwing hens.
One hen dead other two birds MIA. I know where at least 2 of my coon traps are. I'll be setting them tonight.
I did not, but I found enough hen feathers back behind the barn to know she didn't make it.I sure hope you find the rooster and other hen.
Not a pure one at least.I'm back with Myrtle my "brown leghorn" (three peeps had told me that she is in fact, not a brown leghorn despite being from a breeder, but I would like to hear y'alls opinions)... About 1 1/2 months old.

That's very interesting. I wonder how that happened. Not a pure one at least.
I really hate to hear that, but if you're going to lose some it's always a relief when it isn't your favorites. If my Silvers survive to laying age, I can send you some eggs from them in the Spring.I did not, but I found enough hen feathers back behind the barn to know she didn't make it.
Ya it sucks but for once it wasn't like some of my favorites or best. The girls looked nice although not my favorite pattern and one was a bit of a b!tch to other females.
The rooster was a looker but last hatch non of those eggs hatched. This recent batch that went into lockdown had 9 eggs. All were clear so I'm blaming him.
Least this is what I'm going with so things aren't so bad.
