The Moonshiner's Leghorns

It depends on the line and whether they are a production vs heritage/exhibition line. Our production Leghorns start laying by 16-20 weeks, while I am told that the exhibition lines I purchased stock from may not lay until closer to 24-28 weeks.
Ok, thank you for that info. I was curious.

Well, the crazy broody hen has changed her mind. She is not sitting on the eggs any more and had one for breakfast. Any eggs that showed any signs of life are now in the incubator.
Well, now she can get back to work. ;)

This thread really had me tempted to look into Leghorns next year. As it unfolded, a batch of random hatching eggs I bought had a hunk of brown Leghorns in it and they're developing well. 🤣 Well, next year and this year are kind of close! Really excited to add Leghorns to our flock.

Let us know how the hatch goes.

Thanks so much! Their leghorns look gorgeous so I’m really excited to see. 🤞 I can definitely see why you’d love leghorns so much. They seem like an all around awesome breed in gorgeous colors. I set them on the 12th so we’re nearing just a week left.

@The Moonshiner How are your chick's doing that you hatched?
They're doing good. I'll need to move them out in a day or two. Gonna have to split them into 2 groups so better do some rearranging and brooder cleaning today.
The batch that started in the MaticoopX is hatching now. Think there's 6 hatched so far so I'll see how that goes. Set more eggs a couple days ago and will probably set more in a couple days.
In the mean time I need to move some adults around so I can get a large pen going for some of the first chicks from this season.
I did let another 15 girls and 1 boy go this week. Surplus adults.

How exciting, and I'm still sitting here wanting to fill my incubators up to with some Leghorn's. Your's are so pretty.
