The Moonshiner's Leghorns

Here is a full view of the pond. Definitely not pretty right now but once I get it planted up good in the spring it will be a nice redneck garden pond. The plants have grown a lot since this pic was taken. This morning I had a hyacinth near blooming.

Hatch day is Wednesday but I have a couple pips and one has already hatched. Glad I got ahead on the brooders and already have an empty one waiting. I'll only have to bump a couple groups and clean a couple.
Another hot day but weatherman says mid 90s tomorrow then 4 days in the 80s then 4 high 70s . I'm sure it'll change before then but it's fun to dream. 70s would be so nice. Get some stuff done without the frequent breaks.
In WTH news I found 2 white shanked cockerels from my first hatch this year. One blue and one barred so there's something amiss with my blue barred/barred pen. Totally get the white skin since I used a white skin breed way back when I needed something to get blue from but WTH I havent bred anything with white skin in probably 3 if not 4 years. Yellow is recessive so it can't hid white.
Idk but in a few days I'm going through all the juvies to see if there's any others. I'm stumped.
Also have an unexpected chick from my last hatch. I'll just get a pic of it later.

Wanted to update on our homemade redneck pond. We build the homemade filter last night and after running only 12 hours, the water was crystal clear this morning. The only thing we had to buy for the filter was the pump from Amazon. Made the rest of it with repurposed things from home like the bucket, old water hose, sponges, and some quilting batting I had. I sewed the media bags myself for the aquarium pebbles I used as bio filtration. Then used some creek stones in the bottom of the filter (bucket) to create dead space for the water intake. 😎

Here is a pic last night when we first turned the filter on.

I figured @The Moonshiner would appreciate all the redneckery. This pond is behind my house where no one can see. It may be an eye sore but it is functional, the fish are happy, the nitrogen cycle is on point, everything is thriving, and the swampy aquarium is out of my house so I consider it a win all around.
