I like your incubator!

One of those "set it and forget it" models.
I've only got 3 buff girls. One's a pullet and isn't a reliable layer. Smaller eggs and very random on when she lays.
Idk if I've had but one or two of her eggs to ever hatch. Usually they're clear.
That hen hasn't been very reliable for a few months.
She kept going broody acting on and off. Never committing though. Well I guess about 3 weeks ago so hopped on one of the pullet's egg. It was a bit undersized and had a dirt spot on it so I just left it for her. She'd be on it often but plenty of times she wasn't.
About every other day I'd get an egg from the third girl. I could easily tell which was hers so I'd snag it and leave the one egg.
Today when I fed and watered then she jumped out of the nest box and at first I just some some shell. I thought oh, you finally broke it didn't ya? Then the chick popped up and peeped.
That's a super rare thing for one of them to hatch a chick.

Hi Moony, I got two straight comb brown leghorn chicks about a week ago. My first brown leghorns. Thought of you and your love for leghorns when I was picking them out. I thought to myself, Moony likes them, I'll give them a shot.

That's too cool.
Hopefully you'll enjoy them and then I can be known as a "good" influence instead of the opposite as in my youth.
And bonus now they'll have a reason to check in here more often.

So with this last batch I was using 3 different incubators. With the limited buff eggs and the buff chicks not being mistaken with any others I figured no need in putting all my eggs in one basket so put a couple in each incubator.
Sticking to their routine with the exception of one chick they all hatched at least a half a day later then any others in their incubator. One last one just hatched a few hours ago.
Any knowledge or theories why this might be? Just curious.

I got some work done out there today on the chicken run. I've been making sure that all of the wire on it is reinforced since all of the Bielefelder's are gone now. I need to have it and the coop cleaned out good before these BGD's are grown out and feathered enough to go out there. Then it will hopefully be time to hatch some more BGD's to keep them company.

Where did the buff color come from, would it be because of the breed that was needed to introduce buff?

I'm not sure. I didn't make mine I bought them years ago and have no idea what breeds are in their background.
Wonder if I've been using the same line long enough that they're not quite as hardy as most of my others.
Little weaker line making them take a little longer.
