I locked my hen up soon as she went broody and gave her 8 eggs.
She was in a 7 x 8 ft area with her own waterer and feeder beside all the other chickens (look but don't touch) All this for the 5 baby chicks that hatched so momma would be happy. I have 3 baby cockerels and 2 pullets.

We had some persistent old game hens who were relentlessly broody, so we gave them some mixed up eggs to hatch. They are each taking fierce care of their little broods they just hatched. I told my husband if chickens could think “deep” thoughts one hen would holler to the other “see girl, we don’t need no man!” Neither hen had been with a rooster in months. It’s a miracle!

In Muck boot news, I got them yesterday.
The ones I purchased was listed as the "artic" version of the ones I just wore out.
Difference it says is they're fleece lined and rated for about 30° colder I believe.
Weeeelll, this aren't fleeced lined that I can see and appear to be the exact boots I was trying to replace.
Bad news is they were still a bargain but not quite as much of one. Good news is they're exactly what I did need and was looking for.
I went back and checked their add to see if I was crazy or that they did advertise them wrong. Wow they have a new ad (still incorrect) and $5 higher price. Yee yee, I make a lowball offer. $5 less then last time. They counter with a $15 higher offer. Ya, no. I counter counter offered $2.50 higher then my first offer.
They accepted it.
I suspect these will be the same as I just got but back up boots aren't a bad thing, right? But ya, I'm done now....

I have a pair of Muck boots. No fleece, just standard neoprene swamp boots. It don’t get cold enough in Mississippi for Muck boots apparently. My feet sweat in them and it can be bitter cold to the rest of my body. I know bitter cold is a relative term and MO certainly gets lots colder than MS.

I have a pair of Muck boots. No fleece, just standard neoprene swamp boots. It don’t get cold enough in Mississippi for Muck boots apparently. My feet sweat in them and it can be bitter cold to the rest of my body. I know bitter cold is a relative term and MO certainly gets lots colder than MS.

I keep a pair of standard rubber boots on the stairs from the garage so I can just slip into them without having to use my hands. Perfect for the coop and also for the girls when they are being pecky. For the little bit of winter, I'll just wear wool socks.

Ya we can get quite hot and quite cold. I've had the regular ones and would sweat occasionally in them so they were always part time boots. That last pair were my first "ankle" mucks.
Same as the regular but only 6" or 8" tall. I wore them daily for chores here and at work. Idk if it's all because they're short or not but they didn't sweat me any worse then my cowboy boots really.
Winter I got cold feet on several days and had to double up on the good socks and that wasn't always enough.
I would really be interested in trying a real artic version of them if those are really a thing.

My Muck boots that come up to just below my knees rub my shins for some reason, even with boot socks. They are a waterproof marsh type boot I think. Good for mud season but causes little red spots on my shins?
