That's why I went blue. You can get light blues if you breed for it.

No it isn’t sex linked or anything like the barring or silver genes.

I like it but its to much work for me. Plus I want something that comes in multiple colors so BBS is best for me.

Otherwise I love lavender .

Lavender also comes with feather quality issues you don’t have to deal with when you breed BBS.

Breeding lavender or lavender splits to blues is also a big chicken genetics no-no also. It apparently can be a nightmare with feather quality, and you can almost never separate the genes again.

But yes, breeding lavenders requires careful marking of chicks and meticulous record keeping.

Of that I am aware, as one of my lav cockerels had the shredding gene. These were all Orp-based EE. Very pretty, and two of my hens are very lightly barred. Which surprises me as I thought barring was sex-linked to the males.

But I'm going to re-home all my OG hens and just keep my Am and BA chicks to breed to a black Am cockerel.

Ameraucana are slowly getting past the feather quality issues. The problem with the shredder gene is that it can effect other colors as well if brought in from bad quality lavenders. And with how popular that color is most places you get them are not working on the feather quality.
