On hatch lot of 10 chicks I have 8 boys

We got 12 “straight run” Speckled Sussex chicks one year and there was only one pullet in the bunch. Then last year we hatched very rooster heavy, and when I ordered those straight run Silvers from MM, 12/14 were roosters. That was pretty suspicious though. I wouldn’t put it past a hatchery to pick pullets out of a straight run batch to fulfill pullet orders and then send me the rest.. mostly a bunch of roosters.

So far there are 4 hatched. One white, one Buff/Red, and 2 BC1 Crele.

Mind you, the parents of the White Leghorn eggs in my incubator were born on June 2(Foghorn’s group from MM). So they went from being chicks themselves to producing chicks in 6 months.
