Hopefully his son's will be bigger if you put him with the bigger females.Hopefully he is small but mighty. And capable! lol
I have seldom seen a rooster more determined than these Leghorn cockerels free ranging. They run the hens down. Even the very agile and fast Game hens. There is no old head honcho to keep them under control around anymore and they are running amuck! You know the smaller the rooster the more determined he is.
Generally all of the offspring are bigger when you put a male with a bigger female. Females contribute a lot of the genes responsible for size in a breeding. I was always taught that males influence color more, and females influence type and size more.Hopefully his son's will be bigger if you put him with the bigger females.
I sure know what happens when I'm setting up breeding pens and first throw the male in. There's no hey let's get to know each.I have seldom seen a rooster more determined than these Leghorn cockerels free ranging. They run the hens down. Even the very agile and fast Game hens. Definitely no gentle courting from young roosters for sure. The older, more experienced males don’t tend to harass the hens as much.I sure know what happens when I'm setting up breeding pens and first throw the male in. There's no hey let's get to know each.
