The Moonshiner's Leghorns

What licensing exam did you take? Are you an NP too? Taking any lengthy exam while 8 months pregnant was no easy feat, I imagine! Having to sit there with a near-term baby bouncing on your bladder sounds less than pleasant! lol That is impressive! And the happy dance afterwards I'm sure was adorable!
Clinical psychologist. Fortunately I’d already passed the written exam and this was the last step, the oral exam on state laws and ethics. But the three psychologists evaluating me all look startled when I lumbered into the room. 😆

Right there with you. We’re having a brake issue with our truck and it’s going to the shop next week, and that’s our only 4WD vehicle. We live on a narrow backroad that won’t get plowed or salted, so we’re here for the duration. The real cold (cold for these parts) doesn’t move in until tomorrow, but the snow turned to sleet and we could hear limbs crashing down through the night. We’ve laid in firewood and water and are bracing for the inevitable power outage.

Our HVAC unit (outside unit thing, with the big fan... whatchumacallit) has an inch thick layer of ice on it, so we had to turn on the emergency heat setting so the unit wouldn't get messed up. I'm glad my husband knows about stuff because I have no clue about all that. He spent a few hours yesterday chopping firewood with my son, despite his 100% carpal tunnel and bad back, bless him. It's always good to have emergency firewood around for sure.

I definitely do not blame you for hunkering down and staying put while your truck is in the shop. I'm not going anywhere until I have to go back to work Tuesday night. Hopefully by then, the roads will be better. Our electric went off for a bit at some point during the night. I pray it doesn't go back off, because I have eggs in lockdown. It is so stressful hatching chicks during storms because you feel so helpless for them.

I pray everyone's electric stays on and the animals endure this cold okay. 🙏

I imagine they were startled! That is very impressive! My hat is off to you for sure! 👏

I will understand if you tell me you can't help me over the internet and to see my doctor when the storm passes.
Definitely do the warm compresses and massage until you can see your PCP. It isn't going to hurt, and may relieve the obstruction that is clogging the duct.

Not so cozy here. I have an older home that isn't efficient for theses temps. Heat doesn't keep up. Bedrooms have space heaters so have to hibernate there. Wearing a jacket in the rest of the house. Water lines are in crawlspace so they can freeze. No water as of last night.
Bathroom is a long ways from main inline so that's first to freeze. Trying to finish a second bathroom in mudroom. It's off the kitchen so a lot closer. Seriously gonna cut a couple holes in kitchen floor and run new lines with heat tape to mudroom then add space heater there to.
Moving hot water heater there too. Vision is eventually a straight shot of heat tape pipes to it with full bathroom, utility sink, washer/dryer, hot water heater and a hose spigot.
Always a project or 10.
We live in a double-wide mobile home on a permanent foundation so we are always worried about the waterlines freezing during the winter too. There is always a million and one things on the "to-do" list and never enough time or money to do them.

Friday was bad but I didn't work that day. Yesterday was really bad. Truck was slow to crank but started and ran. 15 minutes of warming up and it still wasn't at normal running temp.
Ran fine and I made it in without issue. Thank you truck. Roads weren't too bad but with 2WD I watched the road out front like a hawk all day.
Steady snow all day but wasn't piling up too quick and saw people out and about. Of course it really started coming down a hour or so before leaving.
Roads were slick so I took gravel were I could. Seem to get better traction on gravel even if they hadn't been touched or driven on much. Also like that I can use the whole road with no traffic around.
Snow was supposed to continue overnight and more extreme cold. Waiting for sunrise to see what this morning brings. Get through today and I'll have tomorrow off.
have I mentioned I HATE winter?
I hate winter too. Your winter is much much worse than ours here in KY so I can only imagine the misery. Winter just seems to always drag out while spring and summer go by so fast. Our driveway is gravel, thankfully because it is up a hill and if it were paved we would have to park at the bottom and walk it until the snow and ice thaws.

Glad you have tomorrow off! Hopefully your commute to work and back goes well and you get home safely!

My husband just came in from chipping ice out of the grate over the HVAC. We were talking about building a little roof over it before the next storm. What does the emergency heat setting do?

That tailess silver leghorn just gave me my first egg today at 12:12 pm. I was out there when she did it. She had been squacking funny and walking back and forth prior to that.
