The Moonshiner's Leghorns

@KF0002 humidity is at 33% dry. Eggs are developing well. I think the air cells look good

That is perfect! A humidity of 33% is just fine. You can increase humidity to 65-70% on day 18 when you stop turning the eggs. That is what I do. Can't wait to see your chicks!

Weather is still all over the place here. 73° yesterday, 63° to start the day today. Going to end the day in the 30s. Teens overnight with below 0 wind chills and wintery mix. Then mid-70s 2 days later.
Feed stores have chicks in stock and the urge to hatch is real. For now I'm distracting myself digging deep in my to-do list. Last week I got my driver's license straightened out. That's been on the list three months shy of 20 years. Eventually I'll switch over to my thickening to-do list and then I'll be close.
Very similar here - high of 71 today, then moving to rain and freezing temps.

I'm actively avoiding the feed store right now!

Microplastics are the hardest to avoid. They are in absolutely everything. I don't cook in plastic and try to not by products that have them, but it's so ubiquitous.
Yes microplastics are absolutely in everything we consume, especially processed pre-packed foods. I listened to a neurology podcast that said every adult human alive right now has enough microplastics in their body to be equivalent to a plastic spoon.

So, avoid microwaving food in plastic tupperware and avoid plastics where you can, but you would spend a fortune and drive yourself crazy trying to avoid microplastics entirely. You would have to limit yourself to fresh and whole foods only pretty much. Or grow your own foods.

What material did they use to make those braces? Something doesn't seem right with that. Is there a way that you could find out?
He has the conventional metal braces with brackets, wires, and bands. His teeth are feeling some better. It was just unfortunate timing for him that he was hit with a double whammy in the same week, braces and the flu. His dad was sick that weekend prior with the same symptoms.

No hatching for me till probably May. I need to limit my hatching this year. It hard not to love the weekly chicks so I think my only chance is a late start and early stop in the fall.
I'm way behind on thinning birds still so I'll focus on that for a while I suppose.
I'm right there with you. We are keeping our hatching this spring/summer to a minimum because of the cost of feed. I am only hatching what I absolutely have to from my project pens. We are hatching some White Leghorn eggs for a friend, and only one batch of turkey eggs to test fertility before I send some eggs to a friend in Mississippi.

My husband helps me not to impulse buy feed store chicks during "chick days." He tells me firmly "no we don't need them" and we move on. It's for the best. 😆 😆 😆

Three of my leghorns got their first day out of their crate and the chance to free range today. They stuck as close to the stag as they could because my two game hens are bullies.

Aww look at the stag all stoic and protecting his Brown Leghorn girls. I love a good rooster like that. Game roosters are fierce protectors of their hens. Beautiful birds!

Thanks! Bréannin is a Flarry Eye Grey/Whitehackles mix.
We had Flarry Eyed Toppies years ago. They were mean as a junkyard dog! The old broodcock would fly at your face to try to hit you right in the face. He would shake on your leg and light your world on fire. We thinned those out quick. We even had two Flarry Eyed hens to fight and kill each other one year. I think we just got them from a bad line. My husband crossed them on Roundhead and those were good and not man fighters, but pure they were HORRID!

The main correlation is with long-term use, but I'm sure the smaller the dose and the shorter the term, the lower the risk.

Oh no!! I'm so sorry you're sick! My son tested positive for flu A at the urgent care and it has been a really virulent strain this year. He ran a fever for 5 solid days and hasn't eaten enough to keep a bird alive in that same amount of time. My husband also had it, but so far I'm good. Thank God! I don't think I've ever had the flu that I know of.

Yeah insurance is a witch for sure. I hate how they dictate so much in the healthcare world. I could rant on about that for hours. Hopefully you will get to see someone soon to discuss your options. But a slight risk of dementia is nothing if the klonopin helps your mental health and keeps you well now, especially if you are on a low dose.

Benzos are a first-line drug for panic attacks so I could probably benefit from them, but with my significant family history of addiction I'm scared.
Thank you so much!!!!!!! I feel a lot better now. Just a cough and no smell mostly now and stuffy. I got my appetite back the other day and I’ve been eating like a horse LOL

And good point!!!!!
