Photo shoots are hard work!
But so beautiful !

Awwww! Double AWWW!
They are SOOOOOOOOO cute. Unlike the Orpingtons, these I'll be able to tell apart easily.

So- do I risk more than one baby by putting her in with the broody hen when I take away the dud eggs tonight? I cracked open 3 more tonight and they were all infertile. The reason I'm being so careful with this hen is that the last broody hen I had, I didn't let set on eggs and she became egg-bound, hemorrhaged out and died. I have only 5 hens now and I don't want to lose one this way... they're older but I want this girl to have her babies...even if they're not her's from birth. She's at day 14 if the eggs were fertile but she's been sitting at least 21 days. She's weak, She needs to have babies, but all the hatchery had today were black chicks- when I tried one in with her this afternoon she pecked at it like she would kill it. Tonight in the dark is another story...But should I put them all in there or only one sacrifice?

This is a difficult decision to make. You will probably need to make a guess at the number to put with her. Are you comfortable risking all, then give her all. If you are more comfortable with only 1, then one. Perhaps you could try 1 tonight and if that goes well, give her a second the next night.

hmm, not sure. You never know. My last broody did the same..after I took one of her own to help it get stronger, just for a few hrs. and put it back, she pecked at it bad! I took it back in. I'm not sure how yours would react. You just never know.

Sorry..I'm a big help!

The chicks have to be young enough to do this with, like 1 day. I tried giving 3 day old chicks to a broody. The hen was happy to have them but the chicks wouldn't listen to her.

She's buff orpington- very easy going, never pecks my hand when I check underneath her. So when we got home with the chicks I thought i'd bring one out to try with her- she went crazy!

I really want HER to raise these...I guess I can risk one. Maybe tomorrow night slip in a few more?

I really have no idea...

Tomorrow will be day 17 for me and I'm going to candle the eggs under my broody again. Some close friends of ours bring their kids over all the time to play with our daughter and they have been counting down the days until we candle again. It's cool how much they have gotten in to the chickens. I went today and picked up some new babies to add to my BLRW and EE chicks. I brought home 4 Ameracaunas, 4 Lemon Cuckoo Orps, and 1 Polish. I've always thought the Polish look like rockstars so we have named him Slash the Cockstar. We have been laughing about his name all afternoon. I LOVE this chicken so much already and luckily he lets me love on him all I want. He's got an awesome little personality. Here is Slash in the truck on the way home this afternoon! He just makes me smile and giggle every time I look at him!

What is it about the Polish boys that just bring out the giggles and the desire for a cool name? Mine is named Signor Le Pouf. I just call him Poofie.
