ahh I just set eggs tonight. due May 10th. I don't like for them to be hatching out on the weekends, we are never home on weekends... busy busy busy. Set 5 1/2 dozen eggs!!!

lol I will probably sell most of them. and yes you read that right. And just for proof purposes:

I have about 14 dozen eggs out on our porch in addition to these. 4 dozen in the fridge for us to eat... sold 3 dozen today... gathered 27 eggs.

and I have some in the brooder right now... my other bator is working on a staggered hatch. Chicken eggs due on Monday, duck eggs the next week...

I swore that I was not going to hatch any eggs out this year... but then one of my ducks made a nest and sat for a week and then abandoned it!!

Ok, I've been thinking. should I offer my Java eggs as a prize for one or more of the contests? I have some problems with this. I won't have the eggs ready to ship until fall/spring. and this will be my first time shipping eggs. what do you all think??

Yes, large end up, which is the correct incubating position as well. Some eggs are difficult to tell which end is which; technically the large end is more porous which is why air is pulled inward to help the embryo develop. If you set an egg on its side, the large end will be slightly higher than the other end.

THe embryo gets oriented based on the end up the highest during the first week and by the beginning of the second week, it has it's head up toward the air cell, and bum and feet curving downward like a C. THen it can internally pip by pushing upward thru the membrane into the area of the air cell.

Does this make sense? Maybe you already knew this.

Well first of all... NOPE I didn't know this and secondly... THANKS SO MUCH. I've now only slightly elevated the large end of the eggs that I just set. I think I'm doing the right thing now and am pretty happy so far. (two whole days in!!

) I just want some of these BBS English Orps to hatch so badly and would talk to them day and night if I think it'd work. Well, let's face it, I'll do it anyway.

Thanks so much for all of the advice. I have been just absolutely thrilled with the threads helping me with the setting temps, positions, and appropriate humidity. I'm being as patient as I can... which isn't patient at all. Thank God for others who are hatching and I get to see all the sweet babies!

Congrats on the winning look alike--that was my fav, no question! Just perfect. Many others were intereting and fun to look at, but the lady gaga was a perfect match!! Will PM you at a later time about prize.

I wanted to get Trader Joe eggs . Had DH stop at WholeFoods looking for fertilized white eggs but no go. If I got the eggs I did n't see the point in making them wait 2 more days to set. Found a TJ about 40 minutes away--Saturday I can get there.

I do have other eggs waiting to go in. BO EE/EE and turkey.

Ooooh, waiting for that PM! I looked at your pictures..didn't see any FBCM chickens did I? What is that beautiful golden barred chicken? It isn't a type of rock is it..just golden? Very pretty..
I saw a lot of those pretty dark eggs though!! I'm excited! I don't have any Marans.
