-The Mythics RP-

They? How could she know? Jintao stepped back, brows lifted, then furrowed. She had slipped. She must of. Her wanted poster came to mind. Foolish him, once again. She was nothing but a trap- sent and paid for by who knows who to bring him to his demise.
Jintao let the sleeve fall slack. His reach into his pocket was slow with quivers. The handle of the blade still bore his warmth, begging for its fill of blood.
Relax, this isn't what it looks like, his conscience made its plea. She's not some bounty hunter, or else you would have seen the signs long before now. And yet the Destruction still got raided, he snapped at the thoughts. Brma got in, the Mavyaks escaped, well, at least two of them anyway, and one by one the members were snatched away by some unseen power that targeted the strongest. Curses, all of them.
Jintao slid the blade free from his pocket. Its thirsty glimmer caught his eye, cheering him on. More quivers threatened the sturdyness of his grip.
"They?" Tay hadn't moved. Eyes locked. Feet readied. Tay fell for the fatal blink. Jintao made his move. He grabbed her wrist, dagger still in hand, slamming her into the wall. Her knife fell, and he stepped on it before a rattle could be heard. He prepped his knees into her quadriceps, cutting her circulation to an uncontrollable tremble.
"Who are you working for, huh? Who hired you?" His dagger stuck into the wall by her head, her wrist still in his tightening grip. "The Royals, is it? Or the Raiders? I'll kill you either way, I don't care. Talk, Jordan, talk!"
She despised herself for yelping like a dog, and her hatred only deepened when all she could grasp was a faltering breath of air, "Idontknow-" she further inhaled, "I don't- I don't know,"
Her hand stung from the bone, and pulled taught against Jintao's hold.
Simple pain, simple pain-

(I've been picturing this fight on the deck behind the poop this whole time
I'm not sure if frigates have a deck like that but that's what my brain was picturing)

I feel like I may be in more shock than Tay. Duckwing, you dare spark my imagination with these twisty dramatics-
Alas.
Now to somehow coax sleep back, and ward of interest.
Alas again.
Shockers are fun, though, when written well, even if they are spontaneous. So, thanks, Lace, I will lay in bed all night and stare at the stupid ceiling and ponder over the future of this scene.

Night, all! ❤️

Simple pain, simple pain-
Ember straightened in the chair, her wings arching sharply as the feathers rose in a sudden bristle.
The feeling of wrongness stung the back of her skull and she swallowed hard, untangling thin fingers from the half-braided mess of hair as she stood. It was more of a clumsy scramble than her dignity would usually tolerate, but the overwhelming vibration of danger took its claim of subtly.
She drew the hand-crafted blade from its place tucked beneath her blouse in her belt, tussling mentally with the sense in the air as she crept to the door, clutching the silver key.
No, she was not in danger. The presence of fear was seeping from another presence elsewhere, nearby on the ship. Someone was threatened, but the adrenaline coursing through the Harpy's blood made it hard to yet distinguish exactly what was happening.
Ember pulled back her wings, bracing a hand on the thin door and nearly touching a feathered ear to the wood. She swallowed again, fighting to keep her breath silent as she listened.

"Don't play fool with me, Jordan," Jintao's voice hissed, "because I'll cut you in so many pieces that every fish in the whole blasted ocean will get a taste of you."
The fear shone in Tay's eyes. He had seen it before. Victims, knowing there was no escape, breathing their last futile breaths, that is, if the Captain didn't choose to have some fun with them first. He squeezed Tay's wrist deeper into the dagger's handle, stopping only because her bone wouldn't allow him to press further without breaking it.
"Vhanya, is that who?" Jintao brought his face close enough to bite Tay's. "Huh?" His whisper bore venom. "How much did she pay you, girl? Talk! Where'd you get your information?"

"Man, I know nothinggh," she shied from his intensity, grinding herself into the wall, "I don't know," her head shook, "I've never meant ill for you, I swear it, I swear,"
The sense of old memory drenched her mind, and terrorized her adrenaline. Hearing dulled, and once again she played the victim, a cursed, default position.
What was she dying for?
Someone else's sin.
What was she doing here?
A fool for thinking trust and bond could come so easily.

Jintao peeled Tay's body off the wall and slammed her into it again, harder this time. "Yeah? And you expect me to believe you?" he kept his face close to her's. "I believe you about as much as the last dog that drowned. You're working for somebody. I know it!"
Jintao loosened his grip just enough to move Tay's wrist from the handle to the inch of blade that wasn't swallowed by the wall, pressing just enough for her to feel it without peircing skin. He was accustomed to hostages not talking, some even refusing to the point of death.
Tay's quivering increased and her legs shook more. He knew her legs were to the point of temporary paralysis, so he pressed his knees in deeper. His conscience barked at him, telling him to stop. He blocked it out like he had always done, reminding it that he had killed innocent victims before.
Jintao's grip loosened. He held back his knees only a little. Tay held her face away from his, the same face he had met only a few days before. Scared, lonesome, and helplessness hidden by a toughness that wasn't to be broken. That toughness was gone now like a victim of abuse and fear for her life replaced it.
Idiot! Fool! What are you doing? He didn't want this. He had left it all behind the moment he jumped off the  Whey. Self-preservation was why he was doing this, and if it had to end like this, he wasn't sure he wanted it.
Siudalmus, it was the very thing that kept him going. It was why he lost his arm instead of his life that day for the fear of it was too great. He pressed Tay's wrist to the side of the blade continuing his threat, but with less risk.
"How'd you know?" his tone had calmed, despite him keeping its firmness. "Tell me, Lyra, how'd you know. Who told you about my arm?"
