-The Mythics RP-

Ember turned towards the dawn light, rubbing a quick hand up and down her exposed arm to awaken some fresh warmth. The Harpy cupped her hands close to her chest, allowing a swirling flame to peak from her palms, climbing mischievous up and around her fingertips.
The silhouettes of early ships dotted the expanse of grey and gold sea, hazy spots far on the horizon, or looming shadows slowly tugging over the restless waves. The morning fog started to shift, slowly releasing its grip on the dock and swirling higher into the air- it would have burned off within a few hours.
Vhanya's voice sounded loud but wordless up to Ember's perch, the ring of command defined even though she couldn't understand the words fully. The Scorpion may have been a pain in the tail feathers, but at least she could order a crew effectively.
Ember shook out her burning hands, flaring her wings to keep the warmth circulating through her body as she draped her cloak over the edge of the crow's nest, pushing away from the mast and rolling her shoulders. The arrival of the strange Phoenix had ruffled her more than she should have allowed herself to show—it was a coward's way to avoid the chaos and seek shelter in one's own solitude. Unacceptable.
Embrace the chaos.
Ember closed her eyes, opening, closing, and flexing her pulsing hands.
Find strength in chaos.
She realized vaguely that she hadn't caught the Phoenix's name, followed instantly by the snappish thought that she didn't actually care. He was skittish, and a young fool. Naive, reckless, and uncontrolled—weak. It didn't matter if he was related to her or not, she didn't owe him anything he couldn't earn—especially not her respect or care.
Ember's eyes opened again sharply, the thoughts reawakening her confidence and she shot a sunlit glance down at the rest of the crew. The Harpy gripped the edge of the crow's nest, jumping up and swinging her legs over before releasing the wooden ridge, dropping down the mast.
Her wings flared, the crimson red scooping the flaming dawn light, a slight hint of exhilaration igniting within Ember at the drop beneath her. She wound a wrist around one of the many cords tethering the sails as she fell, the friction over her skin burning gloriously before she landed gracefully on the lower main yard, crouching to embrace the shock of the landing.
The Harpy stood, leaning perilously on the beam, supported by the rope still in her grasp as she glanced among the newly formed crew before finally settling a penetrating gaze on Vhanya.
"Alright Captain," she started, aware that her tone would likely spark a note of irritation from the Scorpion.
"You've got yourself the start of a crew and a hint at an idea of a destination, but we are far from ready to set off—as you probably know—and I've got places to be. So now, oh great "Queen" of the Quicksilver, tell us what the plan is, and let's get this show on the road. Do you know where to find the rest of your crew, or do you need eyes and ears to find them for you?"
Her tone gradually shifted as she spoke, more genuine in her questions, less sarcastic. The Harpy glanced at Galen and the other Harpy woman—another name she hadn't learned—as she finished, avoiding acknowledging the Phoenix.

"Anyways," Galen began walking to the edge of the deck, "I'll be back in a bit, I wasn't expecting to have to bring my work with me."
he ran the last few steps until he was out in the air. His wings snapped open, catching him before he hit the water and carrying him out into the open water and then up into the morning light. It felt so good to have the wind all around him again, no longer stuck in that stuffy dark cove. He couldn't help but smile.
Putting two fingers together, he blew a piercing whistle that rang out, echoing on the shoreline, calling Quasar, and with that he flew towards home.
The sun was fully intent on rising now. Her pocketwatch currently stashed in her cabin on the ship, Vhanya could only estimate the time. She raised a hand to shield her eyes from the hazy morning light, and figured it was around a quarter past five. They’d need to start moving soon, either to gather more crewmates or to ready the Quicksilver for sailing, the skies looked clear enough.

She was attempting to be long-suffering with the Harpies, but as Galen launched himself away from the starboard and into the salty air she felt a slight pang of annoyance, it was rather quite unfair that such Mythics could fly around as they pleased.
They’ll make an excellent crew, though. Being able to fly past the ratlines to the sails will be much more efficient, Vhanya reasoned, and she knew to prize efficiency.

She tucked her tail into a loose leg of her trousers as she listened to the questioning of the hooded Mythic and Ember. She regarded the former for a long, quiet moment, then finally spoke with a slight sigh. “I’ve changed my mind. You may join the crew.”

She turned to Ember and started to walk towards the prow, gesturing for the woman to follow, “you’ll be my Quartermistress, aye?“
She talked steadily, the Harpy had asked for a Captain, and she would get one; starting with orders.
“I want more hands. Take a partner and scout for potential crewmates. Keep your wings hidden- during the day the souls around here are a little less drunk and more likely to notice a Mythic. Is that all clear?”

Vhanya stopped at the fore, arms akimbo, and turned to face the motley collection of Mythics aboard the ship.
“Expect for us to set sail tomorrow, as close to daybreak as possible if all goes well. I’m expecting all of you to pull your weight.“

"I'll just have you know that I have absolutely no clue how any of this stuff works," Lichen informed Vhanya, snapping her wings shut. "But I'm a fast learner. Tell me what I need to do."

Jintao stepped in front of her as though for intimidation. "I should have known..." he trailed off. There was more that he wanted to say, but he stepped to the side and allowed her to walk next to him. Yep, he thought. This is really going to be the death of me.
"I think I liked it better when I didn't know who you were," he looked across the docks. Nautalis had to be somewhere nearby. He chuckled and shook his head. "You are naive, I'll give you that, but at least it makes two of us," he muttered.

"I keep forgetting how your past is not riddled with shame and failure like mine." She sucked her lips and gave a dull nod. "Lucky."

Nautalis ducked beneath the looming curve of the ship's hull, brushing a light hand across its furnished boards before sweeping back up again.
The deep, ever-present white noise pressed consoling to her ears, lulling and achingly familiar. The stretching lines of docked ships nudging and bumping the stilted docks added a constant drumming to the water's magnified sound, a steady rhythm of thumping that could be felt considerably far out at bay.
The siren slid over a diagonal beam mounted between the supporting legs of the pier, moving into the faint shadows of the already dark water. The slits between the dock planks cast weak lines of moonlight across the surface, dissolving and scattering completely only a few feet under.
Nautalis drifted forward, up to the thin surface, and allowed her head to slowly breach the water's skin, sharp eyes fixed on the boardwalk mounted over the shallows of the high tide. Her frilled ear popped gently as the water flowed down the sides of her face and streamed back into the sea, accompanying the waves of swirling dark hair fanning out around her head.
She slipped closer to the shallow water, allowing her chin to sink back into the dark liquid as she listened, intent to the sound of human voices and boots thumping on the planks. There were other humans further over the docks, loading ships and occasionally calling across the foggy air to each other. The siren drifted closer to the boardwalk still.
"I should have known..."
Nautalis smiled, twitching her tail slightly to turn parallel to the dock, the waves nudging her back and forth as she pushed off the wet sand with one hand, barely flicking her tail to fall in beside the footsteps.
Hello Jintao... you're early.
"I think I liked it better when I didn't know who you were." A pause. "You are naive, I'll give you that, but at least it makes two of us."
Perhaps. Yes, naivety will work fine for me.
She twisted suddenly in the water, ducking her head beneath the shallow surface again as she flicked her tail sharply, flipping a spray of frigid droplets up and into the faces of the two humans pacing the boardwalk above.

Jintao frowned. He stopped and turned away. "I'm sorry," he said like he was coming back to reality. He exhauled long and looked to the line of the horizon. Spray struck his coat as he turned back to her. "Let's, uh, just find this ship. It'll get us both out of here."

She hadn't meant for him to apologize.
She'd meant for him to loose it. Or maybe she'd wanted him to slip back into the handicapped state of depression.
He'd done neither and now she hated him more.
"My poster's been up for weeks and you didn't even notice it on your own. What's with that? Aren't you oblivious, following me like a dog, Jintao. I pity you."

"Forced to give up?"
Ember's voice grew venomous, the heat channeling through her blood fiercer than before, making her eyes glow brighter still.
"She... she was forced to give me up? And it broke her heart, yet she knew me. Knew where I was, and she never..."
Her breath grew quick with rage, her clenched hands opening and curling under the instinct of brandishing razor claws. Her glare burned into Coal for a long moment as she stood there, sucking in a few longer breaths to recollect her composure.
"Never came back for me." Her voice settled again, falling back into its emotionless, icy tone and she slowly flexed her smoking hands, working the tension out of her muscles.
"Now tell me why I should-"
She broke off suddenly, her body going rigid as her gaze snapped up to the burly woman standing at the corner of the building. The sense of danger swirled back into the outskirts of Ember's mind and she flicked a gloved hand toward Coal, signaling for him to stay quiet.

"Well, your guardians moved away and well..." Coal went silent. He sensed what Ember was worried about.
He stared at the woman paralyzed with fear, gaze fixed on the moon. A chill ran down his spine and her fear became his own.

(wait, how does she know what they are.)
(yeah sorry I was thinking either yes sixth sense or MAYBE some wings showing? idk sorry)

The moon's light was harsh, and she felt the change begin in an instant. Her legs twisted in inhuman ways and she prayed the Mythics at the corner weren't looking at her.

Hair turned to fur, thickening and twisting. Her shoes tightened uncomfortably, not meant for hairy werewolf paws. The clothes she wore fell away, ripping and tearing, and she hoped they weren't too badly damaged. She collapsed to four legs as ears sprouted and her tail plumed out, and the change was done.\

A fully grown werewolf was now standing in the streets of Pirate's Cove, ears twitching and fur on end.

And typically, when a werewolf changes, they have so much wolfishness running through their veins that they howl.

Very loudly.

Lupin bit her tongue and tried not to make a sound. But instincts are stronger than the mind itself, and a loud, wild howl erupted through her teeth.

(Werewolves do maintain their consciousness though, so we won't have to worry about her shredding anyone. Unless she wants to, lol.)

Ember had yet to see her sixth sense fail her.
Vhayna's warning repeated loudly in her mind, timely to the scattered, and now horrified onlookers, the air thickening with fear as the bone-chilling howl echoed through the misted dawn sky.
"During the day the souls around here are a little less drunk and more likely to notice a Mythic."
Notice is one word for it.

"Stay here," she ordered Coal, once again not bothering to see if he would obey. The Harpy bolted down the short stretch of cobbled street to the open path where the rather terrified Werewolf stood.
Most of the bystanders had taken off, racing into the cover of buildings or around street corners to escape. The few that didn't dropped behind crates or barrels, guns drawn and locked on the massive wolf.
Ember ripped off her leather gloves, letting her cloak drop to the ground behind her as she ran, stopping sharply in front of the Werewolf, wings flung wide like a giant, feathery shield. She knew it wouldn't stop lead, but if it threw off their aim even a little, a little was enough of an advantage for her.
Flames burst across her hands, lapping up her forearms as she drew an arm up sharply and backhanded a wave of swirling flames into the air toward the two closest gun barrels. The edges of the canvas tarp rested atop the collection of palettes ignited, smoking and flickering for only seconds before the entire pile was spewing fire.
Ember yanked a hand upward, the blaze reacting with the movement and jerking out toward the street, lashing and snapping at the armed humans.
Ember jerked her head toward the Werewolf, meeting her Sage-green eyes.
"Follow me if you want to live."
Her wings snapped down and back, launching her back in the direction of the docks and between the buildings.

(I'll have Ember fly Lupin toward the docks, they'll probably stop nearby to gain cover and talk or something before sneaking back to the Quicksilver.)

Coal did not obey. He stomped after Ember, dropping his cloak and gloves. Every inch of his arms and torso erupted into flame. Not subtle at all.
To be fair, the werewolf started it. Coal wasn’t exactly sure why they were protecting a dangerous werewolf from the humans, but it could never be said that Coal would quail where his sister went boldly forth. Plus, what did she expect him to do, stand there?
He joined her in shielding the werewolf and when she flew up, he followed.
