-The Mythics RP-

She tried to hide it, but her smile twinged into a grimace—the quill pen upon her desk was suddenly captivating, she fixed her eyes upon it.
”Too much. Sea life, I mean.”
The memories his question brought about were most unwelcome, she chuckled slightly to diffuse them and reassumed her languid manner as effortlessly as she could muster.
“She belonged to my grandfather, Captain Alastar Marriott. She is of a new make, Alastar had managed to steal the plans of a ship the likes of her and had her built specifically for pirating use.“
She looked away from the quill and met the man’s gaze, “you don’t see many frigates on these seas, being of a new make, and quite frankly I believe she’s one of the first built. I know she may not look as though she’s seen much wear, but the boards of the weather decks have been completely new- I had them replaced-as well as the sails.“

"Ah, that's why the name seemed familiar," Nautilus chimed in, smiling faintly.
"Captain Alastar is talked of often in the cove. I've heard of the family line some, but I did not realize this was the ship."

"Mm," he nodded. He cracked a smile, which was an act that the Captain seemed to be buying. He placed his fingertips on the wall, as though admiring it. "You've done a fine job with her. She looks like this will be her first time out to sea."

Ember stood silently on the now deserted main deck for a long, silent moment, thinking deeply as the listened vaguely to the sounds of the docks.
She knew she should probably manage whatever Coal and the others were doing in the powder magazine. But the thought of tolerating the Phoenix in her presence so soon after her outburst on the docks sounded anything but pleasant, so she refrained from the idea. Unless the Captain directed her there, she would avoid it. The last thing she needed was Coal imagining she had sought him out on purpose.
The Harpy strode confidently to the other side of the ship again, following the short passage to the captain's quarters unflinching.
She only stopped when her hand was already rested atop the handle, a brief and very late thought stopping her from striding directly in. She wasn't Captain, only second in command, and invading Vhanya's cabin could likely compromise any position she held on the Quicksilver period.
Ember hesitated for a long moment before reaching a curled fist midway up the wood and rapping gently on its finished surface, her head cocked slightly toward the sound of voices on the other side.

(Here, have a singular sentence 😭)

A knock at the door halted her answer, she shifted her focus away from the Siren and her companions, “don’t dally, come in.”

Ember stepped through the narrow door, giving the Captain a short nod.
"The Werewolf is waiting in one of the foredeck cabins. I don't expect you to be addressing her anytime soon though."
The Harpy carefully pressed the door shut, her wings nearly blocking the entire frame.
"I would like to listen if not contribute to the discussion. Otherwise, I can be... assigned elsewhere."

”Ah, Ember!“ She straightened in her seat and turned to the others,
”this is my Quartermistress, I’m certain you all will soon become well acquainted.” The arrival of her Harpy had triggered another bout of furrowed brows from the man, Vhanya glanced at him out of the corner of her eye; watching him squirm was rather entertaining.

”You may stay, Ember,” she reached into her desk drawer and acquired a small logbook and charcoal stylus, “once we’re finished conversing here, I’d like you to log the names of everyone aboard this ship.” She handed off the logbook and resumed conversation, “where were we?”

The current state of her crew- more like ragtag and bobtail, she mused- was bordering on embarrassing, though she’d never admit it. But she was set on straightening them up, most of everyone had proven themselves to have some sprinkling of fortitude, and she was already considering employing the human girl as a surgeon and the man her first mate, despite his grumbling.

If, in the end, they were all still hopelessly set on chaos, drowning them in the bilge-water and starting anew was always an option.

The Harpy stepped forward, gracefully accepting the small book and stylus before stepping back to her position near the door.
The pages flitted quietly as Ember glanced through them quickly, a claw skimming the edges of the parchment as they flipped before she clamped it shut again. The Harpy tossed a stare on the man, her red eyes slowly glancing shamelessly over his scrawny frame.
Pathetic. Simply pathetic. To think, such a weak soul would dare insult me like that.
Ember's expression hardened slightly as she tucked the charcoal pen into the book pages, looking away with a slight upturn of her chin.

Nautilus gave a slight hum of assumement, hiding her annoyance.
"Your ship. We have established it is a fine model- the best of its class if you will. Shall we proceed to the terms of recruitment, Captain?"

(wow I like this insight into Ember's thought process)

(My toxic trait is thinking I could beat up scrawny guys even though they are definitely bigger and stronger than myself, a 120 lb girl. I should not judge them for not matching what I think men should be like! I must improve! I must not be a hypocrite! We all are fighting our own battles!)
