-The Mythics RP-

"Good morning, Jintao."
Nautilus swung herself up onto one of the arranged barrels, settling, legs crossed, on its wide brim, watching the first mate with scorching golden eye beneath the scarf.
"Did you sleep well? Also, where is Jo- Lyra?"
Jintao's hand tightened on the barrel he was leaning over. Nautalis, not really the person he wanted to see right now, or ever again. From an outward appearance, she had done him no wrong, but getting him here was where he felt sore.
"Nautalis," he gave her a nod.  Lyra, why did she have to mention her first thing? "Sleeping, most likely."
He turned away to the barrels he had already counted and pretending to be counting them again. It was enough to appear busy without rudely walking away.
"First night on a ship, you know. Most don't sleep well so she's probably sleeping in and I see no reason to wake her yet."

The siren leaned toward him as he paced away, hands clasped over her ankles.
"So you didn't sleep well? Would you like me to wake her? I would assume you'd like to address some things before we set sail and are all separated to our respective posts."

Jintao's lips pressed into a straight line, his back toward Nautalis.
"I slept fine," he moved away from the barrels and toward a stack of crates. "No need. She'll be up and around when she's ready."

Nautilus let out an audible huff, pouting at his turned back.
You are a boring man.
"Well, anyway then,"
She swung her bare feet back to the deck boards, slipping off the barrel.
"Are you too remarkably busy this morning to get some sparring practice in? I'm aware I neglected that offer last night when it would have been more convenient."

(That's why I just reread the whole thing before I started again. It's not too long for a RP scene yet, tbh.)

I ought to learn quicker.
Her own thoughts earned a sharp huff, tainted with a frustrated growl.
Ember wasn't sure where to guide the conversation from here. Her own thoughts kept questioning themselves into one corner after another, and the questions that remained weren't the sort she wished to expose to the elder man.
So she was reduced to silence this time, lost in a burning stare out at the gentle shifting waves of the bay.

Nautilus inhaled loudly, slow, and deep as she stretched, her thoughts dragging groggily to a start.
Comotion sounded from beyond the canvas bulkheads, not unlike that of a group of drunken sailors stumbling about a fight in a tavern.
The tight boards of the ship held back most of the early dawn light, allowing only a few muted slivers to breech into the deck below.
The siren sat awkwardly upright in the swinging hammock, clothes twisted about unevenly, and she spotted her sea-green scarf escaped to the floor beneath her. A few other women were about in the hammock space, some sitting like her in their temporary beds, others knelt on the ground, fastening boots or hair or coats.
She cocked her head at the sound of laughter, curious of the other women's irritated or disgusted looks thrown toward the canvas wall.
If I'm not mistaken, that may be the Phoenix from yesterday. Poor thing is going to get himself killed before we're a week from shore.
It was unfortunate that such a thought reminded her so strongly of her traveling companions.
"Mmm..."
Where's Jintao? I ought to find him. And his 'friend.' Hope they're still alive.
She frowned.
By the tides, they'd better be. I made him a deal.
She leaned away from the hammock, eyes slitting tensely at the odd movements of the thing, and she adjusted slower. There was a moment of awkward shifting like that, attempting to be free of the bed without spilling herself brutally onto the deck boards. It flipped backward, spinning once as her bare feet met the frigid deck.
She stretched again, crossing her arms above her head, and her deep inhale quickly gave way to a fang-toothed yawn.

"Good morning, Jintao."
Nautilus swung herself up onto one of the arranged barrels, settling, legs crossed, on its wide brim, watching the first mate with scorching golden eye beneath the scarf.

How’s he gonna tell her…

I can’t wait for Fitz to get on board, she’s going to despise him 💀

I, myself, am not trying to push this very unfortunate conversation to happen, it's just that the results of last night are going to completely derail everything Nautilus had "scheduled" thus far

Good, she was leaving the situation alone. He stuck his hand in his empty pocket for only a moment. That too, he needed to hide from her.
"I noticed," Jintao glanced over his shoulder. He counted a few more crates.
"Reliability would be best," he stared at an empty label, pretending to be reading it, "which I'm sure you're aware of."
Jintao nodded his head at the crate, a mental note taken, and walked past Nautalis. "And yes, I'm far too busy and I'm sure this will take me quite awhile. I'll let you know when I have time."
Jintao made way to a crate that bore a stack of parchment on top, hoping Nautalis said nothing more. He grabbed the quill pen and wrote notes that were far too sloppy for anyone to read. He frowned at it, telling himself to write better-left handed or not- and moved toward more crates.
