The neighbors new dog.. and a lost leash?!

My husband could never kill a dog and he is all kinds of man. Me thinks your wife lucky to have a man who wakes to frightening noises and goes to investigate. Mine could sleep 5 feet from his own squalling infant and never lift an eyelid.

I can.. I know I can..... but. .. ... is it worth mentioning? My wife is on my case, I am in risk of my man card cuz I didn't kill dog on sight.. on and on and on and on...

It was a cute dog by the way

She's on your case because you didn't kill a sweet, friendly, frightened dog that wasn't harming anything?! Sheesh! To me, you have a full deck of man cards, just because you were able to rightly access the situation and respond in a manner that was appropriate. Killing an innocent dog for just being there would be cowardly, but that it just my humble opinion. Real men don't shoot first, then ask questions later. They are in control of themselves. I think you did the right thing!

I am thinking she wants that pink and polka dotted leash back more than she was worried about the dogs life tho lol... I am a dog lover to the core, I just woke up cuz my guard dog alerted me, and we both reacted according to training. I wasn't expecting dog kisses that late at night tho.

I would just go ask for it back, you did what most people would've done.. Armed yourself and investigated. At the same time introduce your self to them, maybe they were a bit scared? And are no scared to return it? or maybe they work shift work, And the only time to return it is too late to come over.. They may come on day off, or they may want to buy you a TY card and bring it same time.. 2 days doesn't seem like that long of a time to some people.. But it's a eternity for your JRT..

One time durning daylight hrs. Was in the coop opening feed bags with my knife... My GS went off, so out I go to the driveway knife in hand.. Betcha I scared those census people.. lol He was out've his car, paper work in hand... OOOps here comes the sheperd followed by owner with knife... My property, their fault! Once I knew who it was I put knife away and explained sorry I was just feeding the chickens, and when my dog barks n runs I better follow

Go get your leash back,if they bought a dog then they should buy a leash. Its not your job to buy leashes for everyones dog...And shooting a scared lost dog is not manley.
No need to explain the weapon it was the middle of the night and something was on your porch,if that freaks them out then thats their proublem.
But do take them some lovley eggs to get your leash back mabey get them addicted to chickens.....Unless they are those weird city type people....

I would say they are/were a little frighten by the gun and with that on top that & worried about their dog.
I would think they are not sure how to go about bring a leash back to a guy that had a gun pulled when you called them to where the dog was. So like was said before I would take a dozen or so eggs and maybe the kids to let them know you come in peace. Ask if they would like the eggs and who y'all are. Then ask how the dog is and say I'm glad the leash got her back home safe for you. That should give a opening for them to return it seemingly at their own terms. If that does not work just say that's your dogs leash and can you please have it back now. Best of luck! If that does not work just take your wife if she really wants it back that bad I'm sure she would get it. With you as her bodyguard of corse.

I would just stop by and ask for the leash. The longer you wait the more akward it will be.It is yours and you did say *borrow* when you offered it.

"Hi, I came for the leash I let you borrow the other night." Simple.

They are lucky the dog was not shot or run over.Gun or no gun I would not be acting apologetic or offering eggs or anything. You did what you normally would do when something raises the alarm in your home.If anyone should be making offers it is the neighbors.

I might give eggs some other time, but not at this moment.Ofcourse the longer they keep the leash less likely I would give them anything.Better to just go get it yourself.

Maybe have your wife bake something, and go over in a more friendly (less scary, unarmed) fashion and ask for the leash back!

I mean, if they're new to the neighborhood, that's a great way to introduce yourself!

Just go get the leash. I see no reason to bring any goodies. They're the ones that should be bringing goodies, in apology for not returning your property in a more timely fashion. And as far as the man card, I see no issue there. At least you didn't poke your wife and make her go check the scary noise with gun in hand. Oh wait .... it's my husband that does that.
