Yeah, I have lost a lot of chickens that way

But the ones I really want, I write their ID numbers down while they're still eggs, that way if they go homeless I can buy them back as soon as I have space.

I just start culling when I'm low on space. Of course, I'm not very attached to my birds...

I give all mine personal names and keep records of them, like how many SPs they earn and stuff. I have never culled a bird except my starters, but even with them I breed offspring from them first.
