Well with losing a boatload last batch to piling out at pasture we have taken some advice on the heat lamps. Out of 204 chicks we put 196 out on pasture. The chicks were really small this time around wich gave them a rough start but they are perking up a bit. Yesterday was their first day out on pasture at 13 days old... they had a blast until the sun went down. It got cold... quick. So I ran to Lowes and bought 4, 100' extensions cords (fortune) and a 12x20 tarp to cover the pen.

Covered the pen added two heat lamps and as of 11:00 last night they were hot! I was impressed with how much better they did with the added light. I have used the tarps before in cold weather but never the heat lamps.... Can't wait to check on them this morning after I get my last cup of coffee. It's a balmy 55 degrees at 5:30 so we will see how they did.

Has anyone else received very frail and fraigile July chicks from Moyers?
