Hey everyone!

Hubby and I are waiting to close on a 9 acre farm soon (assuming the bank gets their act together) and we are super newbies :)Well, he has been growing for a while in our backyard but I am super new at keeping birds, which will be one of my duties on the farm. I want to pasture our flock (egg layers at first) for the bulk of the year, in a tractor - then bring them into a stationary coop for the winter. Is that even a thing? What I mean to ask is - will the birds have a hard time going from one home to another? Any advise ... ANY advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all and have a great day!

They shouldn't have a problem at all :) and yes lol there is such a thing as a stationery coop. Most people actually just call it a coop. Go to pinterest.com and search chicken coops. They have wonderful pictures and fabulous ideas especially for beginners!

And btw, good luck with the bank well all be here crossing our fingers and feathers for ya! Have you decided on chicken breeds yet?

Backyard chickens has a great section on coops. Most people seem to have a (stationary) coop - where chickens roost at night - this is an extra safety measure against predators. Birds in a tractor are much more vulnerable . For one thing predators can dig under a tractor. For another most are made of flimsy chicken wire. 1/2 " hardware cloth is much stronger.

You will find a lot of info. if you go to the Learning Center above.

Thanks everyone. I never would have thought this could be a reality for our family. I'm very excited.
