If you are confused over the name, join the crowd.
Here is the history Crele Polish as far as I understand it.
Doug Kamer created this variety and named it Crele Polish which was accepted by the Polish club. Unfortunately, the general consensus is that this variety is not true crele. To create true crele you need to cross a partridge bird with a barred bird, and since partridge does not exist in the Polish breed creating a true crele polish is not possible.
Some people really get their feathers ruffled when this variety is called Crele Polish, and rightfully so. However, this color variety is stunning and worth our attention.
I decided that since the Polish Breed Club referred to this variety as Crele, than I should also refer to it as crele. Unfortunately, there was so much confusion and debate over using the crele name for a genetically non-crele variety that I found myself having to explain myself over and over. Exhausted, I decided to call my project Crele Laced Polish. I hoped changing the name to from Crele to Crele laced would be enough to satisfy the critics.
Unfortunately, the name crele laced still caused some confusion so in 2013 I decided to exclude the word Crele completely from the name. The variety I am personally working on will be referred to as Orange Barred Laced Polish or OBL for short.
About my Project
I purchased hatching eggs from S&C Poultry in 2010. The first batch of 18 chicks hatched in a variety of colors. I was not sure what I was going to do with the project at that point because no two chicks looked alike. However, in that group a rooster hatched with the Orange Barred lacing pattern, and a pullet hatched with gold lacing. I crossed these two birds to create the foundation of my current breeding stock.
Please note: My goal is not to create a Crele variety, but a barred laced variety that breeds true. I am on my 4th year of breeding OBL to OBL. There are still recessive colors that pop up in the project but the % that hatch true is increased with each generation. I am hopeful that I will one day realize my goal.
