Sorry, didn't see your post before now. At 8 weeks they're big enough to go wherever they please. A day inside the house is enough, though they're not gonna find their way back by themselves. Ducks are notorious for not returning to their house at night, so you gotta herd them in every afternoon/evening. I usually put mine in at 5-6 pm, as any later than that land predators will start appearing for a meal. A secure, locked outside pen connected to the house is good for feeding and watering them when they're in the house, as any water inside the house will suddenly be all over the house.

Another thing since you're into security. My muscovies are really chill and just sit around all day not caring if there's predators around. If you have birds of prey around, I'd advice putting up a bird net over their outside area. I got textile ones on e-bay, 10$for a net that's 5 x 20 m long. Put up with poles 2 meters up into the air so it's easy to walk under it.

Great advice as usual my pen has a wire mesh run with top their house and half is enclosed it has a bush in middle which they go under but poo in house so have been exploring have straw on floor so warm enough hopefully I live in Durham England so weather not always hot god I love them already as they get older I’ll send you pics as colours stunning even if one is a drake it’s not the end of the world !!it might have been me doing something wrong to why you never got my post like I keep saying I just stumble through this iPad thing ha ha ta again speak soon ❤️❤️

I’d keep them penned at least a week so they know where home is. Getting spooked is always a worry till they are settled in. Congrats on your new ducklings. Be sure to post pictures!
