We were told soooooo many times we are going to have snow and again recently. The latest on our weather has switched from freezing and possibly snow to a heatwave. I just give up

My oldest is 53, my youngest is 49. I’m still waiting for the moody thing to stop.

That's some empty shelving! So strange, our stores are still stocked with eggs but the price of eggs and chicken have gone up. I wish I could mail you some!! I have 2 dozen more than what I'll use this week.
Good going on the chicks! Considering the chicken shortages, people are probably getting more backyard chickens. In 2020, shortly after I bought my chicks, there was a shortage on chicks because so many people got some as soon as the pandemic hit.

It was crazy trying to get chicks. I was online at MPC and the breeds I was adding to my cart were for the week of May 2nd and available. AS I WAS ADDING them to the cart and went to checkout, suddenly a message popped up saying some of the breeds I’d selected were not available for the requested date. What??? So I spent a great deal of time modifying, changing, and I never did get my chocolate layers….almost every breed on there suddenly says “limited availability” but hadn’t said that when I started. Weird!!

I’m still not real sure I want to do this. It’s been kinda nice not having the chicken chores and stuff right now. And the location of the coop is an issue….it’s super close to where the deck will be. I’m not sure I like that, but it can’t be moved. That’s the reason we were going to remove the whole setup when the weather got warmer. Oh, well.

I understand that. We had an equipment barn before we built out here, it's location dictated where the coop went, where our house went, and any other structures. We have enough land, but it slopes and rises in so many places that it isn't usable. And then, there are all these springs and ponds. Not knocking the springs and ponds, they are lovely, but they do hamper our layout some.
If you want some dark layers, idealpoultry.com welsummers are good layers and the eggs are a nice dark red. They have cuckoo marans and straight run black copper, but I don't know how dark those lay.
