The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

My brother’s big pickup was shoved 75 feet, then one of her loafing sheds blew into it. Truck is totaled. She lost 2 other outbuildings (and by “lost” I mean they have disappeared from her place into a neighboring farm), the roof blew off her horse barn, and her shelter belt is flattened. Chicken coop is gone. New siding on the farmhouse looks like it’s a hundred years old. No power there, either. They are devastated.

My brother Ron and sister Bev are both single, so they live out on the farm Bev bought when she got out of the Navy years ago. They’ve worked so hard on it. She’s scheduled for surgery on Monday for a bicep repair. My brother drives the school bus for the small school there, and it hit as he was driving his empty bus back to town. He said he had the parking brake on and was literally standing on the foot brake, but the bus started moving down the gravel road. He said it didn’t go far…about 10 feet…but he was terrified it would roll.

Stay safe, my friend!

Just got these photos, added them:

Ron’s truck was parked next to Bev’s car. Notice the siding on the house.

These were the only pics Bev sent me so far.

The photo below was taken by some good friends of ours in Canton as the storm rolled in there. Canton is about 70 miles from where my sister lives in Canistota, with Sioux Falls being right between them.

Hi everyone! :frow It's been hectic here lately. I had family show up from Texas a month earlier than expected, and they're staying with me, of course. :p DD 2 is filing for divorce, and we've been running in circles trying to figure out how to manage her work schedule with the kid's bus schedule. The baby is a little colicky, with that and the extra hubbub of a house full of people, he's not sleeping very well. What can I say. Beautiful chaos ☺
Hi Chrissy! Sounds like your chaos is controlled anyway, hang in there!

We did. It was bad. We had winds that strong here. So much damage, but we are all ok. If we had gotten home any later we would probably have been seriously hurt as we were out on the Gator. We are lucky. A semi tipped over on the highway a couple miles down the road and a pickup rolled and blew out all the windows. I’ll post some pictures when I can. We have no power as there’s lots of lines down…possibly for several days. Hubby is getting a generator running as I write this. Thank goodness we have 2 of them.

I'm relieved to hear you and your family are ok DMC. That must have been very scary! Sorry about the property damage and loss of power. :hugs

Wow, what a mess! Glad your family members are ok Blooie.

Good morning all, thank you!

I need coffee. I might have to run to town if hubby doesn’t get up soon to start the generator.

I get it DMC! That reminds me when a storm knocked out most the power of a town I lived in years ago. Couldn't make coffee at home and drove all over town until found a place that had power to make it for sale. The boys were little and couldn't understand what all the fuss was about to get a cup of coffee.

It's bad enough having to face all the damage, you NEED coffee!

Good morning all.
