I have an appointment at the dmv today. License renewal. I have all my documents together. An official birth certificate, my social security card, registration for each vehicle, insurance card for vehicles, and marriage certificate, because my birth name is different. Whew!
I wonder why an existing license is proper Identification for everyone else, but not for the dmv? You'd they would be able to tell that the license they issued themselves, was valid.

Sounds like the requirements for the Real ID. I went through that when first moving to WY, took me 3 visits with all the docs they wanted before they were satisfied I was not a terrorist.

I'm going early for just that reason. Everyone says they are nitpicky about the documentation.

I fussed at one of the DMV clerks that it was easier to get a replacement for my social security card then my license. She crossed her arms and very seriously told me "The government counts on the DMV to keep America safe".

So never worry, we're all safe as long as the DMV is around!

You would think so!

Is it your first DL with Real ID? It was required for every state some years ago but many got time waivers.

When I got mine I needed all that stuff, had to answer questions about where my parents were born (Dad on the kitchen table in Lancaster, CA so THERE DMV lady!), etc. I don't recall but I might have even taken my passport in just in case.

So never worry, we're all safe as long as the DMV is around!

Yeah, because once you go in there you aren't going to get in trouble. Takes FOREVER!!
