The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

No, I was born in Iowa, lived in the Midwest, on an farm, until I was 8. Then to California, and AZ about 20 years ago. When we moved here it wasn’t like this, we had a lot more monsoons and the snow pack was more consistent.

I can't remember, maybe we've talked about Iowa already...I was born in Des Moines, where were you?

Hey, NFC, I just noticed you list yourself as in the Bluegrass State. Whereabouts are you? How long have you lived in KY? I grew up in Lexington, worked at a legal services that covered central and near eastern KY. And my youngest brother still lives in Louisville. But I have visited all over, and hope you are in one of the (many) prettiest parts! The state parks are so fabulous, aren't they?

Hi @Boppo we just moved here in May for DH's new job so we're newcomers. We're kind of south of Louisville. We haven't had time to do a lot of stuff like visiting the state parks but hope to once we get settled in.

I know you're in Mass. now but for some reason I thought you were from there, didn't realize you were from KY.

I’ve heard Yellowstone is overrated? But idk if that’s true. Maybe just because of the crowds. I’ve always wanted to go.
It was nice 50 years ago (that was the only time I was there). But everything changes and not necessarily for the better. SO many people!!!!! 60 years ago we would go to Yosemite, drive to one of the campgrounds and pick out a tent site. Walk to the entrance every morning and put in our yellow envelope with the payment for the day.Back when Mirror Lake was actually a year round lake, now it is a meadow most of the year with a small river running through it. No more iconic Half Dome reflecting in the lake. I have a picture of my sisters and me standing at the edge of the lake. I remember going to the nightly ranger run events. And singing "My hat it has 3 corners". And watching the firefall at Glacier Point (stopped in 1968 per Wikipedia)

As I understand it now you jump on the reservation site as soon as it opens for the year and HOPE against hope that you get a campsite 9 months in the future, basically when the kids are out of school.

I guess anyone going to these places for the first time would enjoy it because they have no idea what it was like before they were inundated with human bodies and big RVs.

I would never have guessed Costco was involved in hearing aids.
They apparently have the best price on hearing aid batteries, I pick them up for my father-in-law.

When your hearing slowly goes you don’t realize how much you’re missing.
Yep. Apparently we have FINALLY convinced my now 90 year old mother-in-law to get her hearing checked and get hearing aids. I think my sister-in-law said the tests show she has very little hearing in 2 of the 5 frequency ranges. We are NOT surprised. I suspect her hearing isn't great in the other 3 either.

The path comes out by our campsite.
I would be looking at a different site at that campground the next time ;)

We won’t stay here again this year and also next year. They are doing major reconstruction next year. They are taking 30 campsites out and making the rest larger. This spot is big and nicely shaded.

I loved hearing about the park like that so thanks!

Thanks Debby, I think they’re going to help quite a bit!
Do you have insurance? On my C plan hearing is covered but I have to go to their place. I can't drive that far. There is a Costco here in town. I bet they're spendy without ins.

It’s a pull in verses a back in like we usually have.

This park is very active. We’ve been here a couple times and it wasn’t like this. It’s always full but not so noisy. Kids are actually playing in the trees. I hope they don’t get poison ivy.

I hope they do wonders for you!
My husband had ear surgery a year ago this month. He couldn’t hear at all in that ear. He got almost full hearing back. I’m the one saying what did you say now.
What caused his hearing loss? I don't think I've ever heard of surgery helping with hearing! That's awesome!

I went to get a couple bags of ice this morning, my car said it was 97 degrees :sick it’s not too bad if you don’t move around.
We're hitting 103 tomorrow and Monday. Warnings are out. I know some folks are experiencing a lot worse. This will be hard. I best water early.
