Doesn't seem like it. They used to last 40 years, now 4 years seems like a good run for some models.

I have a chest freezer that I bought in 96. It still works perfectly, but I will admit I'm nervous every time I open it.

My maytag washer lasted less than 6 years. I want to know what happened to that poor old bored repairman.
Our 6 year old refrigerator is still running okay but the ice maker in the door doesn't work any longer and the inside one freezes up and has to be thawed with a hair dryer ever couple of months.
it's a shame they are so much more expensive and yet they don't last.

I remember my parents buying a new chest freezer because the old one was over 20years old. They put the old one in my dad's shop and continued to run it. The new one stopped working after 12 years and the old one was still working.

I do too. And it still looked new. The warranty did not last that long and it would have cost almost as much to repair as a new one. I felt like it should have lasted at least 10 years.

We bought a deluxe model French door side by side fridge and freezer in 2017. Ice maker went out in 2019 and was a $600 repair. I'm not over it yet.

We moved the old one out to the barn. It's now a just in case husband gets a deer freezer. I was getting worried it wasn't sealing well and I wanted an upright freezer. This one kept trying to knock me over the head when I was trying to get that thing out of the bottom of it. Got tired of the abuse.

We have a chest freezer me wife hates. It keeps working. An has for at least 13 years. It's in the process of getting filled with dumpling meat. She has a few bags of good flour in there to go with the dumpling meat. It's to bad they don't have a merger and come out of the freezer as a heat hand serve item.

I'd buy that freezer.
