The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

We used to have trouble with raccoons at the golf course in WY.

If they had the chance they would get into the maintenance buildings and make huge messes (fact, raccoons stink). And the office building had a cat door for the course cats to get out of the elements, the coons would get into that building and destroy the cat feeders and waterers.

The first time DH trapped one, he made the mistake of using a cheap trap and that darn thing tore it up getting out.

Maybe the raccoons there were so busy at the golf course, that's why I never had trouble with them bothering my flock.
:gigI have heard they can be a menace. Glad they didn’t mess with your flock! DHs aunt lives in the mountains in CA and they have issues. They’re really smart.

I will probably have to shoot him. I hate to do so. I know they are intelligent, but I don't want to dump him somewhere, where he may not be able to find water of food.
It's my first experience with one in my chicken coop. I cannot believe he was more interested in the chicken feed than the chickens themselves.
That’s a bummer, but I understand. We had to shoot some feral cats when they found our pigeons back in the day. I’ve come close here, but I suspect the cat became prey for an owl or coyote as it disappeared. Maybe it was the ease of the meal, no work necessary.

I was shocked that it wasn't interested in the chickens. I've always expected that if a raccoon got anywhere near a chicken, it would attack. It must be the Kalmbach feed ( It smells like oregano. ) maybe he thought he was getting a spaghetti dinner. I'd rather have that than a chicken dinner.

Janie, I think Pinterest is listening in. This t-shirt just showed up out of nowhere

I think our predator problem down here is foxes. We do have the masked bandits but the whole birds turn up missing sometimes. Pretty sure it is a fox that lives up the road a half mile or so from us. If I catch him I'll do some horse trading with him in the way of his life for the lives of some dearly loved pets that disappeared in the early post dawn hours.
