The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Well, we got the deal on the plumbing problems. The pipes underground are old and crushed in some places.

So today was $400 to find out via scope what the problem was. And it's going to be another $8,600 for dig up the old pipes and replace with new.

By the time this job is done, our entire front yard is going to look like a battle scene and will need to be fixed.

Doggone it. :hit
Are the pipes the sewer pipes from WWII?

Key points about Orangeburg pipes:
  • Material: Made from layers of wood pulp impregnated with coal tar pitch.

  • Popularity: Became a standard sewer pipe material due to the availability of materials post-WWII.

  • Concerns: Prone to cracking and breaking down over time, often leading to leaks and clogs.

Our house was built in 1959 and the plumber said they were Orangeburg.

The only bright side to all this mess I can see, is that if/when we sell the house, we can brag about the new pipes.

The good news of the day...I got our Thanksgiving turkey!

The store only had 2 of the Butterball bake from frozen so I only got one (but glad to find it).

They did use them for quite some time. You will be much happier with better pipes. By now, there really are no pipe there, just tunnels in the ground that would need a roto rooter every so often.
