The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Good morning

Yay, all the hiring is done! I'll have 8 employees to juggle this summer, that ought to be interesting. DH has a crew of 9 guys. The people we have seem more mature and experienced than what we had last year. Hopefully they know more about working and spend less time playing with their cell phones.

DH goes in for his hernia surgery this morning. Gotta get that guy all patched up so he can work hard all summer.

Back in a bit...
Praying that everything goes well for hubby. Ken's had two hernia surgeries and had no issues with either, so let's hope that this one for yours goes as well. Tell him to cough with a pillow tuck up into his middle!

Ken had his pre-op checkup yesterday for his shoulder surgery next week. Um, he flunked. Big time. Labs were all okay. Blood pressure was sky high (it's been creeping up slowly for a few months and they were keeping an eye on it but it wasn't so high he required meds at the time) and his EKG was wonky. They sent his EKG over to a cardiologist for further evaluation and a consult. They kept asking him if he was having any chest pain (no), shortness of breath (usually, but he's has Sarcoidosis in his lungs since 1979), jaw, neck, leg pain (no), so they want him to have a stress test before they'll even clear him for surgery. So after he got home we drove down to Powell and got his new blood pressure medication. And what did he do when we got home? Ordered - ORDERED - me not to say anything to the kids yet, and he went over with the truck to help Tam and Kenny move her furniture to the new place. If this heart thing don't kill him I might! <sigh>

Debby, hope your DH gets through the surgery and recovers quickly, and takes enough time to heal! Keeping guys from doing too much, to fast can be a challenge.

Blooie, Hope Ken gets his BP under control! Hopefully his stress test goes smoothly and if there's something there, that they catch it early and intervene before iit becomes a real problem.

:hugs to all of you.

Debby, inguinal hernia repair ? I've had both sides done, and recovery was uneventful. Your biggest problem may be trying to keep him from doing too much too soon.

First surgery I lifted way more than allowed and thought that I had burst the incision. I quickly learned my lesson.

Is that over the road trucking? My oldest son wants to do that. He has his CDL but wont be 21 until next month so can't leave MN.

Yes over the road. It has its ups and downs. I was driving a brand new Freightliner (2001) and still ended up at the shop all too often. Between truck breakdowns, trailer breakdowns and waiting on loads, I lost my backside. Aside from that, I was nervous every time I was refueling. Being female and built like one there was some unwanted attention that would be drawn the moment I exited my tractor.

I did enjoy the driving but could not justify it.

N F C hope everything goes well with your DH - poor thing being laid up for the second time! He'll be sick of sitting around doing nothing. Men don't like to feel useless - I don't think anyone who is a hardworker does.

My Pinkie Pie (bourke hen in the aviary) had one tiny baby hatch yesterday afternoon. I forgot how tiny they are - they grow so fast!

I woke up to one more quail baby this morning. Looks like another rosetta tuxedo. I made the mistake of saying "Hello baby" as I got it out of the incubator, which is right by my Java's cage. That's what I say to them as I get them out to feed them, so they started yelling for their breakfast. It was only 5.30am so I ignored them until they quit. Can't have them mucking up the schedule!

Then I turned on the news and saw what had happened in London, so that was a bit heartbreaking, and made me late to feed the poor little sods anyway.

Thanks for all the well wishes everyone, DH's hernia repair surgery went just fine! He's back home and sleeping off the anesthesia now. The doc warned him tomorrow might be rough seeing as how it's so close to the, ahem, "sparkly bits". But knowing DH, I'm going to have to watch him like a hawk to keep him from doing too much.

Blooie, hope Ken gets his blood pressure under control. Sorry sour, but men aren't always good about listening to their bodies (or their wives).

J, funny about the "hello baby" cueing the Java's feeding demands, lol. Ugh, I just saw the London news too...more craziness. Sorry for the families of those lost.

So, 2.5 weeks into coping without hubby here, I think I have done pretty well, no venting, no tantrums, no pouting, taking it all in my stride and getting on with things.

However, soon I might need some moral support because my resolve may be tested in the form of a Cyclone developing off the coast and if it does form, predicted to cross the coast between Cairns and Mackay. Guess what town is smack bang in the middle of that distance range?

There have been a few cyclones up that way [it is in the zone] but during Yasi [which was a Cat 5] in 2011 we lost contact with FIL for many days and this was a worrying period. We kept telling ourselves that no news was good news and that he was fine and he was; just no phone or electricity for a week so no real means of contacting us.

Not sure I wanna go through that again with both hubby and FIL in the path

This is where you all tell me not to worry .. it won't form .. it won't cross the coast .. they will be fine
