The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

My broody has decided to give up seeing as I cleared out the nestboxes of bedding to treat for mites (just in case - I didn't find any evidence there but makes me feel better). I can't blame her for wanting to sit on a nice bed of straw out of the wind and chill.

DMC, I'm glad your Opie is all better. Poor you! That would've been scary.

OHLD - glad you were able to keep the chick safe! Poor you though. There was a girl I knew who ended up with a broken leg after slipping down some stairs - but her baby boy she was carrying at the time was absolutely fine. It's that maternal instinct kicking in! Sorry about your hernia.

Thought I'd share some more photos. We had all the Javas out at the same time this morning. The younger ones are barely asking for food (yippee). There was a bit of bossing (mostly from one of the younger ones) but nothing serious. I also took some photos of my Bourkes babies out in the aviary. I'll have to find them some new homes soon. One is just gorgeous and would've been beautiful hand reared (unlike our Pie who still isn't very friendly, unless he wants out of the cage - then once he's out he doesn't want anything to do with us and must be caught to get put away)!

This is my favourite - he's so friendly and was chatting away to me. I can get very close but he doesn't want to be touched, thank you very much!

Here's the third - they all look very alike.

The older ones are so mottly!

Here's little Stumpy - he struggled trying to sit on the bars with the others (look at his poor little feet) but he seems to be able to get up on the rough, thin perch that's in their cage. I've added a flat shelf perch for them too.

I'm glad Opie is better too, I really didn't think he was going to make it. Beautiful birds!

Good Saturday morning everyone!

We had some excitement at the golf course yesterday. A huge wind (seemed more like a mini tornado to me) came along blowing down trees and tearing down electrical lines, benches and trash cans were flying through the air, the huge wooden sign with the course name was blown down, etc. Fortunately no one was on the course at the time. Because of all the trees on the road, those of us working had to exit by driving our vehicles through the course on the golf cart paths. The power company was there for hours last night getting the power lines back up and some of the maintenance crew will be coming in today to start clearing up the downed trees. Oy, what a mess but so thankful no one was hurt.

So instead of the usual work day, we'll all be on the clean up crew which is fine. Good to have a little variety in the routine and DH was actually able to get some extra rest yesterday since no one could be there while they were repairing the electrical lines.
