The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

I pulled a bucket of weeds and put it in the compost bin of the solar heater. The chickens seem to like it and there are usually at least 2 in there. I modified the holder for the waterer and made the top hinged so i can get e at the compost easier. I filled the window box with soil, sand and composted manure. Tomorrow i will make the top for that.
I got another bag of daffodils planted in a three foot trench in the flower garden.
I collected a bin of tinder for the wood stove and a bunch of buckets of tinder to start the bonfire that needed to be burned. I lit that and it looks cosy seeing it burn.
So glad i did not go out in the madness of Black Friday shopping!

Wow that's expensive! But yeah, it makes sense to just get the better hay for the same price lol

Wow that is a lot of bales and I still can't get over how cheap that is! I know $2 is still double from $1 therefore a lot for you guys but for me.... I would love to get hay for $2/bale LOL

If I had the land I would probably make my own but we don't and also don't have any hay eating animals atm

Also I think I'd be scared. Or not scared but idk, I've never grown hay before and wouldn't want to mess it up.

Yeah, definitely a lot of work too
We both grew up on dairy farms, and owned one for many years, so making hay is in our blood.

We used to need more hay, but we have less critters now. On the farm it was thousands of bales.

I don't lift anything. I have a wonderful husband. :)
My husband used to put the bales in the loft from the trailer and then i dragged them in and stacked them. But he has a very bad disc problem. He had to have a titanium rod put in his neck as an emergency procedure on a Saturday because he was losing the use of his arm. He already fells trees and chops all our wood. Which he really should not. Hoping i can find someone local to deliver the hay and fill the loft for me. Once we get goats.

Much better approach. I had to pickup feed today and we meet in the Walmart parking lot. The place was a total zoo. Thankfully I didn't have to go in, and we still annoyed a couple customers as we transferred feed from one truck to the other. Apparently they drive through those parking spots to go out the back way and had to go around us.:plbb

I was surprised to see Walmart sells feed in the pet section and the prices looked good. Now i need to look at the ingredients.

Ooooooh Noooooooo I don't buy my feed from Walmart. btw, how far are you from Staunton? Crazy story. Feed mill is in Huntsville AL, they have a sub-store 3 hours from me, but their salesman lives 30 minutes west of Walmart, and I live 30 minutes east of Walmart. So he put 21 bags in his truck, we meet and transfer at Walmart.

Reason I ask about Staunten (and I probably spelled it wrong) is Sunrise Farms has fantastic feed at great prices.
