The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Okay so Petco had the cutest baby mice yesterday and now Petsmart has the cutest gerbils, guinea pigs, and a freakin chinchilla. And both stores have BEAUTIFUL parakeets right now, Petco has gorgeous light blue and also light yellow ones. And Petsmart has beautiful goldfish. And the platies and fish tanks are on sale. I want them all :hit

I know we've been through this though and I can't but they have great ones atm. Sometimes they're ugly.

OH. ALSO. Petsmart has this gorgeous adorable orange male kitten. 4 months old and sooooooo cute. But he's adopted already :hit :hit

Also random question/observation. Petco has female gerbils. Petsmart has males. They have two in a smallish cage on one side but they were slightly ugly colors, grey/dark tan and a white one. Not ugly but look more like a rat which my parents hate. Didn't think they had more. Other side in a bigger cage they have more, also male. Cuter. One's black and one's white with tan/grey patches. Well, i notice a third tail. Turns out there's 3.

So my question is: if I got them, do you think I can house 3 together or will they turn on each other? They seem pretty bonded, were all sleeping together and the one got up then cuddled back in with the other. I don't want to split them up but wasn't sure if even numbers were best. Of course I could just find another set but was just curious.

And here is the kitten. Apollo. As you can see, he only got here the 16th.

We are having some rain today but it's so light and misty that no more than a drop is going to end up in our water tanks! Plus it's ruined my plans of working through my huge pile of laundry - I can't get any of it dry. (What a shame)! The kids and I will make some Christmas cookies soon.

Bet you can't imagine something so cute and tiny turning into a little monster at feeding time:

And here are my Javas:

One of them likes to bite my neck! They really should be fully weaned by now but their cage is right by the kettle on the kitchen bench (don't tell the germaphobes) so every time it boils (for a bit of hot water to add to the handrearing formula) they think it's feeding time.

Pet shops are not good places for us animal lovers - there's one that's exclusively birds, thankfully a good distance from us, that is not a good shop to take me to!

I have read male gerbils can be kept in bigger groups. In nature they live in family groups. So three that are bonded should be fine.

You are so right! I always want every one lol

And i love your finches! I never knew they could be hand tame

Good point!

I went in cause I wanted to see if they had a brand of fish food I like. Online it said they did and Petco didn't. Sure enough they (petsmart) did! But I had just ordered it on and another brand on Chewy. Good thing cause it was like double the price there hah

Did pick up some new cat food though

Thanks! That's a relief and good to know. :) would 3 still be good in a 20L or is that a bit crowded?
