Hi Debby - it sure is! I've just put some spikey palm frond thingies over my junior coop /run and I'm hoping its good as a hawk deterrent and shade.
I'm planning a spot of lunch, then siesta time

So you have hawks around you too? For a while I had one that kept showing up and getting way to close to the chickens. He just ignore me even when I'd get about 12' away from him. I started throwing things at him and apparently getting hit a couple of times with a large stick isn't much fun...I haven't seen him now for about a month.
 
We have lots of black kites, but they don't bother the chickens, but there's a smaller hawk / falcon that has taken 2 young chickens in the past year. In the new run that was made a week or so ago, if figured i really wanted something just to put the hawks off and in the garden was my inspiration! I got chopping, and connected with the top of my foot, so thats a bit swollen and bloody, but apart from that - mission accomplished

I am now the proud owner of a catapult, which is both a monkey and hawk deterrent (shame I'm a crap shot, but don't tell the monkeys!).

A catapult would be fun to have. Maybe you can launch one of those monkeys at the hawks...assuming the monkeys would cooperate of course.

Do the monkeys bother chickens or just make a mess in general?

The monkeys refuse to co-operate with me ever since i threw a stone at one of them, who deftly caught it, gave the most mocking looks ever and dropped it

Nah, the monkeys don't bother the chickens, but they are good at breaking roof tiles, windows and stuff like that. Monkeys, i can tell you, are neither cute or sweet!

You have my sympathy on the monkey issues. I'm glad that's one thing we don't have to worry about here. They're just too darned smart to fight with.

I believe you on the not cute/sweet part. My aunt had a spider monkey when we were growing up and he used to terrify all us kids. She thought we were being overly dramatic about Zippy being mean until he attacked her leg one day and took a chunk out. Zippy had to pack his little bag and find a new home after that.

Time to get busy getting the chickens up for the day. Talk with you later!

Yep, it's the start of the year of the monkey!
