The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

I currently have one cute little Button quail chick who is a bit lonely. I put it back in the incubator last night to give some of the others a hurry up and so the poor little thing didn't cry all night. It did cuddle up to and go to sleep by one of the eggs which has pipped this morning (but they will be severely staggered).

I didn't think the female who is this ones mother would sit because she's inside and frequently has nosy cockatiels climbing down to peer in their cage. But yesterday (I had been replacing her eggs with some from the other cage) she stayed on her nest all day and chattered warningly at the other female if she came too close. So I'm very pleased that she's got the right instincts, but I'll wait and see if she's a good sitter and mother. I'll have to keep an eye on the male and second female as well just in case they don't know how to react to babies.

I'm always amazed at how tiny those babies are!

Good morning :)
DMC - I loove that painting
N F C - I can't wait to see what your son creates
I'm always so envious of people who can paint. I can't even draw a good looking stick person.
Thank you, I can draw a stick person and thats about it:gig
Very nice work, i love it!
Thank you!
And my early morning phone call has me pretty shaken up. Abnormal mammogram.
Oh my goodness. Fingers crossed all will be ok.
I should take some pictures of some of the paintings he's done for me. I tried once before but they're framed and the glass cast a glare. When I get a chance I'll try again.

I grew up doing a lot of art but kind of got out of the habit. When we had our store I used to do a lot of painting on the ceramic tea pots we sold...guess people liked them ok, sold a lot of those. I only have one saved back for myself, this one which was never finished (forgive the license taken with accuracy, I didn't have chickens back then):

X2 My DW is an awesome painter, Me, I have no artistic talent.

Yes, NFC, i had quail in TN! I hatched out shipped eggs and had a pretty good hatch. Then i used to hatch eggs and sell babies. I love those birds! More tame and calm than most chickens and quieter!

I've avoided quail because of the TDA rules... How did you get away with it?

And my early morning phone call has me pretty shaken up. Abnormal mammogram.

DW had that a few years ago and all turned out normal. Hope the same for you.

@JaeG hope your potential customer comes tonight. You need to make room for more babies :D

You should get out your drawing set! I wouldn't be surprised but your kids get interested enough to play around with it too. That's what got me started when I was a kid...my mom was a wonderful oil painter and she used to let me paint next to her on my own little canvas. I think that was her way of keeping me out of her hair :p

Hope your customer shows up. Art for the artistic is amazing.

Morning everyone!

@Teila love Cuban pork and black beans (DH makes it for us). And food is always better when you can include things you've grown yourself!

@CapricornFarm have you raised quail before? @JaeG has me convinced they look like fun little things. Hope your upcoming hatch goes well.

@KDOGG331 thanks for sharing the photos! It looks like you (and is that your mom?) had a good time doing the horse & buggy ride.

Woke up super early (around 2:30) so my day will have to include a nap. Heard from my son last night, he's in Cheyenne now visiting with my mom & nephew then he'll be here Wednesday afternoon! Hope he's ready for lessons in Chicken Keeping 101 :D

Thank you! Yeah, that's my mom. We definitely had fun! We just did the short 25 minute one instead of the 45 min or hour one (i forget exactly how long it was but basically there was a short one like loop or a long one around the whole park). But it was fun!

And sorry for being so dramatic hah i think I tend to wayyyy overthink things

Send him to BYC while you’re gone, we’ll take care of him:lol:

That's what I'm afraid of :gig

He'll do fine, he loves animals. He's a good watercolor artist and I'm hoping to get a chicken picture out of him while he's here. Can't have him playing with you guys all day, he needs to make me a picture!

Lol he sounds awesome!

My sister painted and donated this along with 17 other paintings for a benefit for a friend that she works with. Last she looked it was at $100. All of her paintings went. Another went for $115. She got orders for 2 more of this one. She usually puts names in the heart, that’s why the plus is in it.

Wow beautiful

Good Morning,

Cap, the baby bunnies are adorable.

Sounds like a wonderful vacation...revisiting places from your youth will be so much fun.

I had to google "kindle, Kindling: :lau there are some odd definitions but DH found the correct one for me .

K-dog, thanks for sharing your trip and pics.

Teila , flying ants in the house is so creepy. We also have the Japanese lady bugs frequently inside - they really don't bother or bite us, I just wish they would show up outside where their aphid eating abilities could be a benefit.

No problem! Glad you guys liked them. :)

That's awesome! I am not artistic at all. Or even musical. Which sucks because I love music but oh well.

Kelsey, I loved seeing your photos and I did mean to comment on them but I was supposed to have someone coming to look at the cockatiels last night that are still available but she never turned up. She finally sent me a text saying she'd got caught up at work and hadn't got home until 8pm. Hopefully she'll come tonight.

Anyway, that peacock was gorgeous and you looked like you had fun.

@N F C I love your painting and I'd love to see your son's paintings. I used to draw a lot but round kids and pets it's hard to find the time these days. I did buy myself a drawing set a little while ago but I haven't opened it yet.

Thank you! And it's okay!! I understand people have lives :) though sorry the lady never turned up!

And isn't he? The full train was even prettier but like I said I didn't want to chase him around but actually, there were like 3 other people also chasing him so I couldn't get a good picture because they were in the way and then he flew into the plants then from there into the ceiling so i said forget it lol but yeah!

@JaeG hope your potential customer comes tonight. You need to make room for more babies :D

Haha that's awesome

That's fantastic! You should be really proud.
I used to spend a lot of time @ one of those paint your own places. I loved it. It was so relaxing. My crew @ Starbucks gave me a gift certificate years ago that I just found. There's a place about 45 minutes from here. Maybe I should start hanging out there when the weather is bad.

We used to have this place where you could pick a piece of pottery/ceramic stuff so a plate, bowl, mugs, anything you wanted, they had cool stuff, and you could paint it and then I forget if you glazed it or they did but basically it was then coated in a clear glaze and put in the cooker thing I forget what it's called. And you could keep it. We used to go there all the time as it was right in town and sometimes we went for birthdays or with friends or school etc. But then it closed at least a few years ago :(

It was somewhat expensive but fun. I once made a dog. Actuallt, my brother and I both made dogs i think. I still have it somewhere. I painted him yellow for our old Lab Bailey. Well, he wasn't old at the time, it was our current dog hah :)

I also took a few art classes in middle school and high school and I'm sure still have some of the stuff from it somewhere.

And once I did this class or workshop thing at this other pottery place and that one you actually scored the clay and everything. I made a chip and salsa bowl.

Oh and one of the high school art classes was ceramics too.

Kelsey, aka kd, I really enjoyed your pix. hope you don't mind but I'll still refer to you as kd.

Thanks!

And no problem, I don't mind at all!

I actually don't mind the other thing either even though i probably sounded mad or obnoxious or something haha

I think I just tend to wayyy overthink and/or have anxiety and on the internet it's harder cause there's no tone etc. So i wrote that big thing but ya. Probably made it worse ha

But something that in person might just be like "oh hey btw it's spelled -ey" "oh sorry" "no problem" turns into a bigger thing on the internet, or maybe just in my head, because to me just being like it's spelled this way kind of comes across and blunt and rude? But maybe it is not. I don't know. Maybe I am just overthinking this entire thing. That tends to happen.

ANYWAY.

I don't care what anyone calls me but basically just wanted to clarify the spelling if that makes sense but I wasn't intending to be a jerk or anything.

So call me kd, KD, kdogg, kdog, kdogg331, Kelsey, kels, call me kangaroo for all I care. :lau

The quail are Coturnix and i didn't release any. Are they prohibited in TN? I had no idea.

From what I found, 25 or less quail is fine. Over that and there may be a license fee.

Cots should be fine because they are domestic--can't live in the wild there.
