The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Is he back yet?

Wow scary! What did everyone do for dinner?

Oh boy!

Nope. He just called and he's leaving Sheridan now.

Oh, well, we all had stuff with our names on it that we could fix for dinner, so we just did what we did the nights no volunteers were there. We chose something and we cooked it or we went out. Jenny and I had Kentucky Fried chicken that night. We split the cost of a big bucket with a couple of the other ladies and then we all went to the small kitchen on the first floor and pigged out, followed by a rousing game of Hollywood Rummy! Each of the other floors had much bigger dining areas and several individual kitchens as part of that floor's huge dining room, so you could always smell all kinds of good stuff being cooked at the same time by the different families. But our room was on the first floor, with only a couple of rooms down there because that's where the reception area, the playroom, and the big gathering center was. The number of rooms was limited by that. Our kitchen was just a single one with 6 tables. Loved it there, even if I didn't like BEING there for 6 weeks. :he

Bleach the mind, huh? Um, I'll pass. Then I'd have to dry it and I wrinkle so easily.

It's like the freakin apocalypse out here. Most businesses are closed, street lights and traffic lights are out, store shelves completely emptied of all refrigerated stuff, dark halls and stairs*, trees down. I was like hooooolyyyyy (you can guess lol). Real life walking dead :lau

Also my friend's neighbor's dogs started barking when we were in the pitch black hall and I was what the heck was that!? Cause I didn't realize it was a dog at first cause one of them was frickin screeching and stuff. I was prepared for a walker or zombie dog or something :lau :lau

I'm not a big fan of the subject melons, but DW loves them. I like watermelon and a french melon that looks a lot like a spaghetti squash (don't recall the name)... But if I ever decide to try growing them again, they'll be under 1/2" welded wire with electric fencing. Last year I had dozens of beautiful melons at the verge of ripeness... You know... Tomorrow they'll be ready... Went out the next day and only found rinds. Raccoons ate them all. They took up too much room in my small garden to get nothing in return. If I could've caught the coons, I would have put them in the freezer as payment.

That is just awful!!

KD, we have a BYC member who's been 5 months without power. It just came on a couple days ago and then out again. But hopefully back on again now. Of course it stayed on long enough for her to refill her freezer with meat and then went out.

Wow 5 months!? Are they in Puerto Rico? I know a lot of that island still doesn't have power.

Thanks for the recipe!

Ron has some yogurt recipes.... I've only tried it a couple of times and though it tasted good it didn't firm up too well.

Sure it was still good

I make the custard recipe. It is thick and smooth

Sounds good.

Sounds fun! I don't think I've ever played Rummy.

And it seems like it would be a nice place if the circumstances for being there were different!

I can't eat KFC anymore as it usually makes me kinds sick and sometimes gives me a headache. Idk why. Maybe the grease or the salt?

It stinks cause I love it.

Yes. My fetish with the 18th century has come in handy. I've been working with them to survive without electricity.

ETA: did you know you can bake bread on an open fire?

We grew cantaloupe one year...every one was mush and they didn’t look ripe at all. I won’t do it again. We have pretty good luck with watermelon.
