The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Hey! We have tree people coming tomorrow but not cutting any down yet, just to look at the trees and give a price. My mom's been saying for years that some of our pine trees are way too close to the house but my dad's always kind of dismissed it cause pine trees have deep roots and are strong, etc. Well, seeing how so many trees fell with all the recent storms, including giant seemingly healthy pines snapped like twigs, he has changed his tune lol plus if you really look at them, a lot of the ones closest to the house and chickens are actually rotted or sickly with holes all over. One is just lots of little teeny holes and I saw a beetle on it but one of them, the whole roots are all eaten by termites and there's huge like inch or inch and a half holes in some spots and one spot is missing bark and evidently been pecked by woodpeckers. It is also hollow inside. He didn't realize any of this until recently and we're actually surprised it's 1. Still standing and 2. Still technically alive. Cause it does have green branches way up top. Hut obviously not as many or bushy as the huge thriving one next to it. But yeah, anyway. They need to come down. So they are coming to look tomorrow.

Hi!

We have ewes lambing soon, 58 chicks in a pen that we need to get sold, and some duck eggs that need to go in the bator. On top of that, every single chicken pen seems to need fresh straw
I hope you get caught up soon!

I think that's one of my biggest reasons for not being ready to jump back in to full time working...I'll miss my BYC time :rant

It's just a real shame when work intrudes on our free time :p
Get a tablet and take regular breaks to keep up!

Update on the food trailer...
Got a call from the county. I wrote up a letter of intent last night and it's being presented to council tomorrow.
Fingers crossed.
I hear you.
I slaughtered pigs last week. All of the fresh meat is taken care of, but I've still got smoking to do.
I've got a breakout of Mycoplasma, so I've got to spend time making sure everyone is doing ok. Luckily only one is really bad. I've got to get the coop all cleaned out and disinfected.
I have the shells for new coops that I'm picking up tomorrow. I need to get at least 1 built asap.
I've got eggs in lockdown. The brooder area I have set up would expose the chicks to the Mycoplasma, so I've got to create another setup for them, also asap.
I have a house in the city that I'm getting ready to sell. The realtor that we initially met with called me yesterday to say he has a potential buyer. We haven't even listed the house yet. I've got 10 days to get the place packed, painted, cupboard doors to install and cleaned.
Ain't spring grand?

ETA: it's still dropping below freezing (-18c predicted for Friday night) and I'm completely out of firewood. I've got to get some cut right away. I can't get my log splitter to start, so I'm going to have to revert to the good old fashioned way of chopping.

You will be very busy!

Sorry about the sick chickens
