The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Hey Michelle, there could be a real market for this! You get that food truck and we can make/sell boozy pops. As long as we don't eat the product, we should be fine (of course, there will have to be a lot of recipe experimenting before we go public).
Hmmm... we might never get it quite right and have to keep testing and testing and testing..... *hic*

I know $ 10,000 in deposits and I think even in withdrawals are flagged.

Thanks, I only have like 1/10th of that lol Would that look suspicious depositing all at once when I open the account?

This is the story I read btw

Pick a bank that has solid roots and has been in your community for years. If you are getting a checking account, see if you can find one with low or NO fees per check, etc.If it is a savings account, it would be great if you found one that pays interest even if just a tiny amount.

Thanks, this is very helpful.

Unfortunately (or fortunately), there's several banks here that fit that description and several to choose from.

Citizen's Bank, Rockland Trust, Santander, Bank Of America, all within a few miles and Citizen's is all over New England. I kind of want to go with one that's all over but I don't know if Citizen's is all over in other areas or just here?

And which do you think is better? Checking or savings?

Depends on what you want to do. Are you going to make regular withdrawals or pay with a debit card? Or are you trying to build a nest egg?
If the first is the answer, chequing would be the way to go (I know, I spelled it the Canadian way). Make sure you get an account that allows a fair # of transactions if you do. Some only allow a few withdrawals a month.
If the second is the answer, then savings is the way to go. You should accrue a little bit of interest. This type of account is best suited for depositing and leaving the $ alone to grow.

That's where I'm conflicted though because like I feel like checking might be good in case I need the money but then I also want to save. I do want to save to move out and/or buy more animals or whatever but I also want to be able to access my money and idk if you can with a savings account?

But either way, I feel like once it's in the bank I likely wouldn't touch it. It's inconvenient cause I'd have to go all the way to the bank to take money out. Now I just go to my stash and take cash out of it readily which isn't making saving easy haha but I've been good lately about saving it and now having the job, money is going in pretty fast. When I don't buy dog toys.

Oh and I read they seize money if it's suspicious? Like lots of small deposits less than $10000 even if you haven't committed a crime. I guess they took some restaurant owner's money?
It will often be looked at sometimes. It is better to no use cash that much

Saw a fox tonight. Came out of the woods, passed by the old coop, on way to new coop but I saw it immediately (happened to be looking outside) and it ran off when I went out. Let dog out anyway (on leash of course) and he finally caught the trail and sniffed all over the yard then he bolted up front and actually made me nervous cause I dropped the rope and couldn't grab it, he was going too fast despite it being a 30 foot leash. Finally caught it after like 4 times though ha slipped under my foot a few times too. but anyway, he thankfully wasn't going anywhere, just tracking the scent across the front yard and up the hill where he continued to sniff all over and tried to go into the woods. Came back out and marked his territory. Must have come from there? He was hot on the trail. This one looked kind of whitish so maybe a different fox. We have a silver fox that's lived on the hill for years. My dad thinks he's very old but I say there's no way a wild fox could live that long as it's been like 10 or 20 years so likely it's offspring? Or I missaw it, could be odd lighting, and could be the red one.

Anyway, Gator didn't even notice. Was sleeping on his bed till I started shouting and ran out.

Dad is on the fence. Thinks he wouldn't have noticed it anyway because he was inside and foxes are very quiet and chickens were in bed so not squawking.

I partially agree and I did run out IMMEDIATELY so didn't even give him time to notice

But I do think something's wrong with him because he wouldn't have missed anything. I know it.

But between that raccoon and now the fox I'm nervous and annoyed.

My dad put hardware cloth on the fence though last night on the corner where it was getting in. I gotta go out tomorrow and put it on the whole fence but there's also 2 squares where the ramp connects to the run and bricks all around. I closed the pop door again tonight. That coon was just after the food but if a fox got in, he'd run right up the ramp and inside. Door's plenty big enough.

We also have to plant all the plants though as it's getting very late so I don't know. Gotta decide what to do.

Morning everyone!

It's back to work for me today, lots to do so guess it will go quickly.

Fun news...the Red Hat Ladies are coming back for their annual luncheon! I really enjoyed having them last year, they had a great time and were so pleased with everything. A very nice largish group of little very old ladies all dressed up in their red & purple and crazy hats, should be fun.
