Don't get sucked into the marketing hype. Their job is to get you to buy stuff, they don't care that you don't need it, can't afford it, etc, just hit the potential buyers emotional buttons and make them think they NEEEEEED it NOOOOOW. "But wait, there's more, if you call now you also get ....." Who can pass up a deal like that?
And WRT instant gratification. Yeah it might be somewhat generational. WAY back when most of us were young
- There were maybe 3 TV channels. You waited until the appropriate time and day to watch a favorite show, even reruns ... IF you had a TV. No recording it to watch at a time more convenient to you. No skipping past the commercials.
- No binge watching an entire season of a show you just discovered.
- Wanted to talk to someone when they weren't home? TOO BAD, no cell phones, no texting, have to wait. Leave a message if someone is home to answer your call, your friend would probably call back later or the next day.
- Wanted to listen to music while out doing stuff? Better like whatever the radio station is playing on your transistor radio. No portable devices for your playlist until the Sony Walkman in the late 70s.
- The closest we had to "Amazon" was catalogs. No search, click, arrive at your door in a day or 3. And new items didn't hit the catalogs every day, heck some catalogs only came out once or twice a year.
- etc, etc, etc.
Yet we managed to live through it
You don't need to! If you don't like them, don't eat them. The concept is "when money is short, you go cheap and do without".
