That doesn't work on either of us.

Yep, scrimp and do without until the nest egg is built up. Hey Kelsey, guess what I ate a LOT of when I bought my first house! LOTS of egg salad sandwiches. I didn't have chickens then but eggs are CHEAP.
Don't get sucked into the marketing hype. Their job is to get you to buy stuff, they don't care that you don't need it, can't afford it, etc, just hit the potential buyers emotional buttons and make them think they NEEEEEED it NOOOOOW. "But wait, there's more, if you call now you also get ....." Who can pass up a deal like that? But also vinyls and the whole "limited" merch trick whether available for limited time or limited amount or whatever
You don't need to! If you don't like them, don't eat them. The concept is "when money is short, you go cheap and do without".And plenty of other cheap stuff but I just have always despised hard boiled eggs and cannot get past the smell and taste.
Might be worth trying though

And WRT instant gratification. Yeah it might be somewhat generational. WAY back when most of us were young
Yet we managed to live through it
- There were maybe 3 TV channels. You waited until the appropriate time and day to watch a favorite show, even reruns ... IF you had a TV. No recording it to watch at a time more convenient to you. No skipping past the commercials.
- No binge watching an entire season of a show you just discovered.
- Wanted to talk to someone when they weren't home? TOO BAD, no cell phones, no texting, have to wait. Leave a message if someone is home to answer your call, your friend would probably call back later or the next day.
- Wanted to listen to music while out doing stuff? Better like whatever the radio station is playing on your transistor radio. No portable devices for your playlist until the Sony Walkman in the late 70s.
- The closest we had to "Amazon" was catalogs. No search, click, arrive at your door in a day or 3. And new items didn't hit the catalogs every day, heck some catalogs only came out once or twice a year.
- etc, etc, etc.

My dove eggs have pipped! I'm so excited - I so miss having babies around. It's a nice, warm day for them to hatch. Its more like spring than winter. I'm about to install a basket under their 'nest', which is a big, hang on feeder, just in case a baby decides to topple out at some point (sounds like that can happen). Hopefully Tilly and Dilly will be good parents as the first week the chicks are extremely difficult to feed because the parents produce 'crop milk' that is difficult to replicate. The hand rearing formula I use does have a variation for dove chicks but I'd rather not have to try (or buy any, finances being what they are). The success rate doesn't sound very good. And life is a bit chaotic.
Expect photos but baby doves aren't the prettiest babies.![]()
