The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Hi Blooie....glad your better.....keep working on it....it took me several tries to quit smoking....funny thing is the last time I didn't realize I quit till one day it dawned on me I hadn't smoked in three months......I was in my 20.s (29) when I quit though..it's probably easier when your young.
Yeah, and that's when I should have done it. As it is now I started smoking steadily at 13, and I'm now 65. Do the math and it's easy to see why this is so hard for me. <sigh>

My brother in law smoked constantly - my sister developed allergies, one daughter also highly allergic, the other asthmatic.(sp?) He had a mild attack at work- luckily a few blocks from the hospital. He decided then to quit cold turkey and did. He quit working.

My sister ended up having a real heart attack. But he felt it was just fine that she kept working. She had too, the insurance was from her job and she made more than him. My BIL died 4 days before their 50th. anniversary.

My dad was a chain smoker, he said the army started that. They would give out cigarettes to the soldiers to pacify them. His lung collapsed when I was 5. I didn't know what that was and was terrified. He quit cold turkey. He lived till 90.

My mom never smoked, nor the three of us kids.

I'm doing the best I can, Diva, really! But it's so hard! No salt, no caffine, no fat, no smokes..... not sure I have the "heart" for all of this!

Whoa, wait just a minute...no caffeine? That's just inhumane. How's a person supposed to wake up in the morning without a big ol' mug of coffee? (And de-caf is not coffee I don't care what anyone says.)

I know you can do anything you set your mind to do...just reflect on all the obstacles you have already overcome.

Switch to Copenhagen. Lol

Just teasing.

Both if my parents quit. Dad went cold turkey. Took him two times but he did it. Mom tried cold turkey then got a prescription. That worked for her.

You've got just about as much 'heart' as anyone I know. Going 'cold turkey' on all of that is tough.

My mom and dad were heavy smokers...mom 4 packs a day...dad 2 packs a day... Both gave up smoking for lent one year...mom never smoked again, dad started smoking again when he got lung/brain cancer and died 6 months after being diagnosed at age 51. You can do it Blooie!!
