The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

There were so many positives about year-round school. They were on Tracts....there were 4 Tracts, A-D. So at any given time, 3 tracts were in school for 8 weeks, and 1 track was off for 3, alternating. Our kids all started out on Tract D, but when Terri started having her mental illness issues, we switched her to Tract C so we would be able to focus on her without the other two getting dragged into things.

They didn’t “waste” the first weeks of a new school year reviewing all they’d learned the last year. Didn’t need to - everything was still fresh in their minds. We didn’t have months of “I’m bored” over a long summer. Their behavior improved with the additional structure and consistency. (Well, except for Terri...her issues were deeper than that). We could take leave and vacation any time of year. And they advanced to the next grade within weeks, not months. For instance, Tam went on school break as a 4th grader and three weeks later walked back into school as a 5th grader. We could schedule doctor, dentist and eye appointments for their break times, no need to pull them out of school. Oh, and the huge savings in school supplies - no big chunk of money to outfit and supply 3 kids for school. Instead we could just replace what was worn out, used up, or outgrown as it happened. Staff loved it - no 3 months without a paycheck coming in. And our kids loved it - 9 months of school seems like forever but 8 weeks was a piece of cake. When we moved to Washington state from there, they were miserable with the long school year! :lau Can you tell this family is a huge fan of year-round school?

Oh wow that sounds awesome and it really sounds like there are a lot of benefits to it!! More places should be doing that!!

:hugs for you @007Sean you poor thing you! Hopefully those doctors will get you sorted out.

@Blooie no serious takers on the house yet which is just as well because there are no places worth looking at in our price bracket at this point in time. We are seriously considering a prefabricated home that's built in a factory then transported to your site as there are a couple of pieces of land we could look at, but it's figuring out where we'll stay while it's being built that's the clincher. Your gorgeous Fiona is currently twice the size of our dog.

@KDOGG331 what is in that Libby to give her such a curly tail? So cute! Franklin looks so soft and cuddly. His colouring is beautiful.

Thank you! She is Great Pyrenees/Lab/Boxer and 25% unknown, although I think it said toy breed which didn't really make sense. I think the Pyrenees makes the tail curl because Gator has the same curl haha in both of them it just curled one day. And he is very soft! A little shy though so not too big on the cuddles yet but we're getting there lol and isn't it!? They really are a gorgeous pair of dogs imo. But then again I'm biased being their aunt :lau The rescue said Pyrenees/Collie but we think he looks, Golden, English Setter, or spaniel or something like that, some sort of sporting/bird/gun dog. The rescue (different rescue) originally said Libby was Great Pyrenees/Border Collie bit obviously DNA revealed otherwise, or at least additions to that, so who knows, could be anything. They plan on doing a DNA test on him like they did with Libby but obviously they will love him either way. I'm mostly just really interested to see where that unique coloring comes from, especially since FSIL said one sibling was black and white which is why she didn't think Golden. But genetics is a weird thing. I think it will be interesting to see how his color changes, if at all, as he grows. They think he definitely has at least some Pyrenees because he has the double dew claws in the back like Gator and Libby. Although he only has it on one leg which is a little weird.
