Fire danger is getting so high here that PG&E is thinking about cutting power in parts of 12 counties. The wind is blowing high and the conditions are close to those that caused the bad fires in Sonoma last October>

I can't like that either. It's always awful and scary seeing wildfires on the news.

I've been researching off grid solar power. The price has put me off seeing as it would take 25 years to pay for itself - that's for the decent one. The more conservative one (where you need a gas hob, gas oven, can only do washing twice a week etc) would be almost as bad at 18 years until it paid for itself. It's a nice idea but that's kinda ridiculous in my book.

The off grid cost will go down as Lithium ion batteries become more reasonable.

Here the Tesla battery is being used for that purpose
