The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Only 5 more sleep to go down here! The kids are so excited they are already taking forever to go to sleep. I kinda wish Christmas was tomorrow so I could get some sleep!

I tried my Santa Bread again using a different recipe and the dough wasn't dry like the last recipe I tried but it never became smooth. I kneaded it for half an hour and it was bouncing back like it should but still looked as ragged as anything. And I don't know how they get their hats to stay flopped over. Mine straighten as the bread cooks and the pompom falls off. I also managed to splash the coloured egg wash all over Santa's face. So I've flagged that idea and I tried making cookie dough balls (cookie dough coated in chocolate). Wow! So, so yummy! The mix has apple sauce instead of eggs in the dough so they can last for up to 2 weeks in the fridge :)gignot in my fridge)! There might be a few left to take and share on Christmas day, seeing as I made a double batch.

We are making melted snowman cookies to give as gifts and I was intending to use orange TicTacs for their carrot noses. I opened the packet yesterday to count up and make sure I had enough, except 'orange' doesn't mean they are orange coloured, even though they look it through the orange plastic container. They are white! (I'm not a lolly/candy person, unless there's chocolate involved). So DH went hunting for orange jellybeans for me and I'll cut them to size.

Its been so hot and humid here and at the moment Christmas day is looking like it's going to be a wet one, but that's not unusual at all. At least it's keeping the garden well watered and our water tanks full.

The problem is I do not know how long I will be here. I might move when I retire.

I suppose I could plant in a pot for now though

When do you think you'll retire Ron?

Oh I looove ambrosia! :drool

Another old time dessert you don't hear much about any more.

Within the next three years. I could retire next summer at 60 and a half but need to make sure health insurance and finances are in line.

That made me think of those Christmases a long, long time ago (way before my time) when kids were thrilled to find an orange and some nuts in their stockings.

I was one of those kids. Also remember stringing cranberries and popcorn to decorate the red cedar that we had cut and dragged home from the Sourland Mts.

anything is better with butter:lau

Especially if it's Kerrygold butter.
