The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Posted too soon. The first photo is Kenny and Katie when she was about 3. Every time she outgrows a jersey, she gets a new one and she gets to choose the player.

Supposed to start snowing and blowing hard here late this afternoon into to tomorrow. We'll see - I've heard that before a few times this winter and we still don't have much. But hope springs eternal - I have to know if Darth is still there!

Good luck at the dentist. I don't envy you! Hate hate hate the dentist - have to take anti-anxiety meds to sit in the waiting room while Ken has an appointment!

Kelsey, if you really want to get to know "Jack Ryan", start with these two books in order: Debt of Honor and Executive Order. As you finish the first pick up the second. They are not the first books featuring the character of Jack Ryan, but they are hands down the best. I have read every Tom Clancy book there is, and those two are the ones I go back and reread time after time! I do not watch Jack Ryan movies because they are so far off the book it isn't funny. The only one that came close was "The Hunt for Red October". And I don't read books that were either co-authored with Tom Clancy or follow the pattern with the Op books. Nope, nope, nope!

Okay, got a warm cozy bed with my name on it waiting back there. I'll catch up better later.

EDITED TO ADD: Kenny just told me that Kendra now wears the jersey that Katie had on in the first pic, and Katie is wearing the one Kenny was wearing in that first photo for the game today. How funny!

Home. Dead tired, but home. Going to take a nap while Ken, Kenny, and Kenny watch the Saints' game. Katie's been a Saints fan since I can remember! She DOES watch the game and she DOES understand it. She can name the players, yell at the refs, and pick up on the small stuff like a pro. She calls all the stats that the announcers spew out as "fill time". She says it's "useless drivel that tries to impress people with how smart the announcers are and make sure there's no dead air time." That's my girl!

Who Dat Say Dey Gone Beat Dem Saints!!!!

Thanks @Blooie ! I will have to check those two books out! My brothers used to love reading the Tom Clancy books as well as some of the James Patterson ones and all those type of books but I have never really red them. I would definitely like to start though because they seem good.

We watched this series because it is relatively new and looked good and also because the guy from The Office is in it so I was curious to see how it was and I thought he did very well in a more serious role. I did like the show and thought it was well done and am disappointed there are only 8 episodes so far BUT I am sure, no doubt, it is vastly different from the books.

Supposedly this is the first time the Jack Ryan character has been in a TV series/episode format, there have been a few movies and of course the books, but apparently it’s the first time on TV. Well, Prime Video. I did like it and I feel like the episodic format can give a little more detail that a movie can’t given that each episode is typically an hour or half hour (this series was hour long episodes) whereas movies are only 2-3 hours total so likely cut a lot but I am sure they did not even try to make it similar to the books, likely just aiming for the entertainment factor or the story or whatever. I find most movies tend to do that though, the books are usually way better, but occasionally, usually very rarely, you get a movie that is either better than the book or at least on par with it. But that is usually pretty rare. But if you do not know about the books or have not read them yet, a lot of times the movies or shows can be good for what they are. I think the key is to take it separately and not compare it to the books too much because they usually are nothing alike. But of course that is very hard to do if you have read the books.

Thankfully, I haven’t been reading much lately, so usually I haven’t read the associated book. But I am trying to read more. I have a lot of books in the house that I have been meaning to read but just not have got around to it. I would like to start reading them all. Both non fiction of various subjects (dogs, gardening, self help, etc. and many more) and fiction. Also various subjects and genres. I really need to read more. It is hard with technology because sometimes I find reading a tad boring now when I used to love it :( also hard with the OCD lately because it sometimes takes me forever to read because I am constantly rereading lines or one word over and over and/or getting stuck in one spot forever and then I just get really frustrated and upset and quit :( I would like to start reading more though because there are truly so many great books out there and you can really get lost and/or learn so much in a way that you really can’t with TV and movies or even music. Reading is a whole other level. So I would like to start again. Maybe with baby steps. I think I just need more practice. Sorry, this post got long again. I will go break it up.

We have a literal lake in the yard lol

Um, where is that water SUPPOSED to drain to? I guessing this isn't common, you've not mentioned having a pond in the yard as a regular thing before.

It only happens when we get a lot of rain (or in this case, snow last night, rain all day today). Usually after a day or two it all just soaks back into the ground. Unless we get rain for multiple days or something. And of course the ground does stay wet for a while even once the pond disappears but it does eventually soak back in. This spot is kind of a bowl, though it’s hard to tell from the pictures, so water drains down into it. The backyard is also tilted that way and flows into it and there is a hill across the driveway and of course the house is on a hill so all the water flows from above down into this bowl producing a temporary pond. It eventually disappears. Though I have thought about making it a permanent pond :lau
