The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Nightly news report updated the fatality count for Beauregard: 23 dead as of tonight. Still some people missing, search will resume in the morning. My heart is aching.
Hugs. We nearly got hammered when we lived in FL. Storm was supposed to be a direct hit, but suddenly veered south just before landfall. Pretty much wiped that place off the map.

Oh dear Lord! 14+ fatalities in Beauregard ,Al. Less than 5 miles from our doorstep. Thank the powers that be, we were spared.

:hugs I felt incredibly sad reading about what happened, especially when I heard that children had perished. How awful. :( It sounds like it was a big one that hit. Tornadoes sure are scary things.

forgot to ask, the momma is a white face, the male must be a orange cheek patch?
i noticed the chick is yellow fuzz instead of white fuzz

Hope you're feeling a bit better. :hugs

Yes, Chilly is a pied yellow who is carrying the pearl so hopefully at least one baby will have the pearl pattern.

This is him on the right with his brother Neon (on the left) who has the pearl pattern in his wing patch.

He and Hawkmoth love our DD, whereas Neon and Dottie (who keeps trying to baby nap the chick and eggs!) have claimed me.

He and Hawkmoth are convinced that if they try hard enough they will be able to pick that pretty glittery print off her top! It's a very good print as they have been entirely unsuccessful.

I hand raised our four (I fell in with a breeder and agreed to hand rear his not so show quality chicks to sell, but we couldn't resist keeping some) but I'm happy to let Chilly and Hawkmoth do the hard stuff this time around. We'll just handle the chicks a lot once they are a bit bigger (and cross our fingers that moving doesn't put them off parenting).

Neon had a rough start, being squashed by his parents as a little chick. They stopped feeding him and he began to get very skinny so the breeder asked if I would try and save him. He has a bit of a swagger (one of his legs/feet isn't as strong as it should be) but he's a gorgeous bird and very gentle.

This is his mate, Dottie (her nickname is Dottie Devil because she will do naughty things to get what she wants like bite the others legs to make them move). She has a particular, enquiring noise she makes when she wants us to do something like help her up from the floor of the aviary, or just pick her up. She has us well trained! Can't wait for them to make some pretty babies once we move.

And here's a cute one of Hawkmoth staring adoringly at her favourite human.

We feel blessed and very lucky. My rent house in Louisiana was hit with a straight line micro burst in June of 2013. I was on the front steps waiting for my dog to go potty when a voice in my ear told me to get inside fast. 2 pine trees splintered in half and struck my house, truck and van at the same moment. The dog and I survived, but barely. I have PTSD when storms hit now.
Totally understandable:hugs

Beautiful birds!

Good morning, everyone. 8" of fresh heavy snow . It's actually quite pretty out there. Drive is plowed, sidewalk and deck cleared. So far flight for tomorrow AM is still on, and limo is picking us up at 3 PM today. It looks like it's a go.
