Had to go through lots of rain, freezing drizzle and snow to get to a nice day today. They don't come easy Kdogg
Hmm, that’s true! Although we didn’t have much snow this winter. But we did have several gorgeous days last week and the week before and a few morning rain, afternoon sunshine, so I guess we were due for an all day rain and clouds gloomy yucky kind of day haha
) but that was a long time ago, we might have gotten rid of them. The BB gun we only got maybe a year or two ago. We did get it out and shoot at it but by then it had already run off cause we had to come back in to get it and made more noise in the process to chase him off (since he initially just backed up but was still visible, pacing) but we did shoot in his general direction so hopefully he won’t come back. I would like to find the airsoft gun though since I think that might be a little bit safer. And my dad wants to give him a little sting with one too and I think the airsoft would be less likely to injure him. But he hasn’t been back yet so far since we did that. There are houses kind of close back there but they’re more to the side and a lot of trees in between. Directly behind the coop is all woods so I think I will try to shoot there if he comes back. Yesterday he was kind of to the side, sort of near the houses but not quite, behind him was still woods, but kinda close so I just had it really low power barely firing and aimed at the trees and ground, then fired a few into the front yard and some other directions too. Thought maybe the noise itself might scare him. But next time I’m gonna aim totally away from anything even though it’s super low power and barely even reaches the tree line from where I was standing. Actually, I think next time I will just give him a little stinger if he’s ever on top of the run again, I’ll just aim right for him. I wish we could have a real gun and just kill him for real but the houses are too close for that. Plus I do appreciate nature and want to let him live if I can keep him away; he is a beautiful fox. But can’t have him scaring the girls constantly and with the baby chicks coming in about a week and a half, I am now really concerned about brooding outside. Need to figure out how to keep him OUT. And away.
so idk what I am going to do this time. Seriously do NOT want to brood outside with that fox but can’t do inside the house this time around. I am thinking I might brood in the garage again. Last time I had them in the house a while then moved them to the garage until they could be outside full time so I might do that again except just start them from the garage to begin with. Or I might separate off a space inside the existing coop rather than out in the run but I don’t know if that is really safe either. I mean, the coop is pretty secure and solid, but I think I would still feel nervous and worried about it. I just don’t know what to do. Originally my thinking was that brooding outside would also help the chickens get used to each other and allow integration sooner but there will be no integration if all the babies get eaten.... so idk. Garage is probably safest. At least for a while.
