The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

If I have to pick and choose, I'll keep the damp 60's over the humid 90's. They are coming soon enough. Truly lazy day today. All we've done is go out to Cracker Barrel for a late breakfast. I'll make a small supper, and then the Princess has play rehearsal tonight.
I love their hashbrown casserole for breakfast. We found one similar in the meat section of the grocery market where the take and bake stuff is.

Sweetpea is truly the sweetest little chicken. :love I tried to put her back twice cause I thought that’s what she wanted cause she woke up and got a little fidgety but then she refused to jump back in the brooder. Just wanted more cuddles and naps lol :love

She's just adorable!

Thanks!! I think so too!! I love her so much! I know I’m not supposed to have favorites but I think I do already....

The holding originally started today cause she was screaming, two or three separate times actually, once on top of MHP and I put her back down inside, and once she had managed to jump up and was sitting on the edge of the brooder! I ran in and said “what are you doing? Get down from there!” And she jumped back down onto MHP :lau but that sort of started me holding her cause she kept screaming. And shut up when I held her. And the last time she was right in front of MHP screaming and they were all under it. So I finally just held her. And that’s when she napped. So I now believe she is screaming for me to hold her and that she jumped up looking for me... :lau spoiled rotten little thing :lau

Oh that's too funny! How on earth are you gonna be able to put them outside now?

I don’t think I am going to be able to! Lol especially cause she had a little something going on with her vent so I’ve been gently cleaning it daily the past few days so she’s really bonded to me I think. I thought she would hate me and she did seem to be a little more standoffish at first but now maybe realizes that I am trying to help her. She is a lot calmer going to and from the sink now and often settles into my hand. She does still scream when I mess with it but she has gotten to be a very good patient. And she is sooooo cuddly. But admittedly I haven’t really held any of the others much

Do yourself a favor and start handling each one of them in a similar manner daily. I had to clean Sophie's butt several times a day and she's noticeably more tame than the other girls. I'm not saying clean their butts, but hold them till they relax and nap in your hands. It makes lots of difference.

Thanks!! I will definitely have to start doing that!! Cause even with my first batch, I haven’t really been handling them much the past year or so and they’ve gotten noticeably less tame lol at least some of them. They still follow me around and all just aren’t big on being held. But some never were. But so I definitely want to start taming them more as well and make sure the chicks are tame! The EEs in particular are very hard to catch when they accidentally get out!! Some of the other birds will squat or at least get close enough to let me pick them up but the EEs are very smart and wary. And fast. Makes catching them impossible. I usually have to lure them back in with food. So it would make things a lot easier if they were just super tame and friendly from the start. Although I guess that might not be the best idea with predators if I let them free range. Idk. But yeah, definitely need to be more even about the handling!! Lol and I do have a couple that don’t really like being held that much that I need to tame down ha
