We’ve been back for awhile now. There’s a bit of infection but apparently it’s not as bad as it looks. They didn’t feel that an oral antibiotic was called for. We agreed. With her health and risk of UTIs and even infections in her MACE, the last thing any of us want is to end up in a situation where we have to play antibiotic guessing games because they’ve been overprescribed. So we got some cleaning tips, a change in the topical ointment we’ve been using, and help figuring out the best way to protect them as they heal, which could take a long time. This is a situation where having no feeling is both a curse and a blessing. We know she’s not in pain, but because she isn’t she is totally unaware that she shouldn’t be doing some things that will aggravate it.
