Definitely past the need for heat stage. All happy on their roost!
I’ve been slacking on turning it off cause I was paranoid they would be cold. Even though they’ve been roosting the past few days I still had the heat on one until last night even though they didn’t even go under it. Just thought they could at least sit on some heat.
Finally got the nerve to turn it OFF last night after Blooie’s kick in the butt and they were completely fine LOL
Probably will be tonight too.
They seem happy as clams on that roost lol
Want to integrate them with the bigs but been slacking on that too. I am so nervous.
I’m a good butt-kicker but obviously we still have some trust issues!Haven’t they been around the adults since they went outside? I somehow got the idea that that was your plan at first, but forgive me if I misunderstood. I start mine mingling at 2 weeks, out with the Bigs all day from 3 weeks, and fully integrated at 4 weeks.
So your getting enough rain too? We just had a thunderstorm roll through and it dropped a few raindrops and quit. I think our weather is going to start changing.Good morning everyone.
We've lived here for going on 54 years in August. Last summer our backyard turned into a swamp for the first time. Last night we got over 2" of rain in less than an hour.![]()
That’s quite a spread Blooie! My Oriole’s are already here. I have the Baltimore and the Orchard.Good Morning!
Well, Kendra still seems to be on a “do it myself” kick. Jen called me and her voice was somewhere between shaking mad and laughing. This morning she was getting ready to do Kendra’s toes, so she put her on the couch with her iPad as she gathered what she needed. She got the washing solution ready and put it on the end table with the bag of cotton balls. Then she realized she had to cut new tape to size, so she was getting that done when suddenly Katie came out of her room and yelled, “Oh, Kendra....No!” Jen ran in to find the cleaning solution and soaked cotton balls everywhere! The iPad, which is really Kendra’s talker, was soaked because she never put it down. She was cleaning her toes herself, just like Mommy does. She had a dripping wet cotton ball and was leaning forward with one foot in her hand, scrubbing each toe clean. Her iPad was still on her lap so as she leaned forward it was sort of trapped between her belly and her thighs, and drenched with peroxide/saline water. The couch was wet, the floor was wet, Kendra was wet, and wet cotton balls were everywhere, but by golly she’d done a beautiful job cleaning off the “crusties” from her toes, and actually had one foot done. She’d done a darn good job on it, too! Oh, how do you scold in that situation?
Katie started damage control while Jenny finished up. She said all she really had to do was dry the first foot well, then put the ointment and bandage on it. She squeezed out some of the solution from a cotton ball that was still soaking in the bowl, handed it to Kendra, let her finish up the cleaning, then dried and wrapped that foot. Kendra grinned and said “All done wif water.” Good for her, and good for Jenny for helping her finish up.
Gotta get Ken’s whites done today but the rest of the laundry got handled yesterday. Trip to Buffalo is still on, despite rockslides, snow, and flooding. I’m going to try to talk him into going up to Billings today - I desperately need a new top for my black chiffon pants since I snagged the one I usually wear on a nail that was sticking out of the door frame I was leaning against and ripped a pretty good hole in it. It’s not near a seam, and it’s super jaggedy looking, plus it’s that fabric that’s silky with metallic threads all woven through. It’s out of my wheelhouse for mending. We leave for a Tuscon next week and I was planning on that outfit as my formal.
For those of you who feed birds, and Orioles in particular, I stumbled on a little trick. Cut an orange in half. Scoop out the pulp from one half and fill it with grape jam. You can impale both halves on a nail or broken tree branch. I haven’t seen any hummers yet, but after 20+ years of trying I finally have an Oriole hanging close by. Of all the birds in the bird kingdom, that’s the one I’ve wanted the most, especially after what happened a few years ago. I know I’ve told you that story! But I never could lure one one in. I was beginning to feel that if I was a magnet, I couldn’t attract a nail!! If this buffet doesn’t make him stop flitting by and finally stop, I don’t know what will!
