The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Still without power. Lost a huge pine tree overnight and a few other trees but thankfully none near the house. Drove all over looking at damage. It’s crazy. Especially by the water. Lots of docks damaged. But trees and branches down everywhere.

The street behind us had the top of a maple fall right on the power lines. Tree still blocking the road. Lines still down. Thankfully it’s not the lines that run to our house but still.

We are now attempting to set the generator up as it’s clear it may be out all day.

I’ll post some pictures of the damage later. Uploading pictures on data is very slow, time consuming, and uses a lot of data. So I’m going to wait. I think once we get the generator running, the internet should still be fine as the lines don’t appear to be damaged. We’ll see.

Still very windy here. The warning goes till about 6 I think.

One of the trees that fell was very rotten and filled with carpenter ants and other bugs. Gave the chickens said rotten wood and leaf litter underneath it where they had run to hide (we cut right through the nest). The chickens were in heaven. :lau

I’ll be back later if we can get the internet working but if not I’ll be back tomorrow.

Guess I missed something Kelsey...was it a bad storm that took out trees and power? As long as everyone is ok, that's the main thing.

Looking for some feedback here on something I just started reading up on...

Do any of you grow your own sprouts (like for salads, soups, sandwiches)? Seems there are so many types of seeds to try and ways of doing it. It's a bit overwhelming. I'm thinking of trying something simple (and cheap) over the winter.

Just wondered if you do it, what works best for you.
sorry, we don't eat sprouts

Yeah we had heavy rain and high winds roll through last night. Worst of it was probably 2am but it started around 11 and went till at least 4 or 6. Slightly less wind now but still wind warnings in place for another hour or so.

Sorry posted before I was finished typing. I edited it.

Hope your power is back soon!

I hope so too!! But we did get the generator running at least so we have the fridge and the internet now and some lights so that’s good.

And I guess they said we had a bombogenesis last night or bomb cyclone plus nor’easter so a bombogenesis nor’easter. So super strong storm. I guess the bomb thing means like the pressure drops rapidly or something? The entire east coast or at least north east had very low pressure.

Here’s an article about the wind strength and rain totals. We saw gusts up to 80mph and probably got 2 inches of rain. Some areas got 4 inches or gusts up to 90.

And it originally was supposed to be 30-40MPH and gusts up to like 50. Ended up being probably 50-60 and gusts up to 80, 90.

Worst of it was probably around 2am.

Here’s the article.

And another one about the damage. We’re in Plymouth county so note at the end it says it’s among the hardest hit ha but it’s a HUGE county but still.
